I seem to recall reading that early sonar sets would produce something approximating a 'ping' inside the target sub but as the war went on the sound frequencies used went way beyond the range of human hearing, so couldn't be heard at all but u-boat crews could feel the ultrasonic 'pings' impact the hull. I guess to model that in game we'd need to invest in whole-body vibration-suits. Put it on the lists with high-impact saline wave machines for when you go on watch maybe?

I seem to recall also being a bit disappointed that the whole meme of submarine crews hearing a PINGGGGG and jumping to terrified attention is somewhat of a myth and a simplification. Ultrasonic 'pings' would be far more ominous and eerie I guess.

Sadly, no. It's pretty far inland.

So much for the Phil Spector Walla Walla Walla Sound Experiment.

Well I'll throw in my 2 cents here. This was on a modern submarine and we were being "pinged" by another submarine and it sounded like somebody whistling very softly.

No, the file option is there; see my earlier post. The "save file" option doesn't show up because the website is not uploading the sound file in a format that can be saved by Media Player. Another player might be able to save it. Don't be worried about W7; it's a great improvement over Vista. If you use Outlook Express, kiss it goodbyed. MS has ditched it in favour of their Windows Live Email.

Use VLC Media player instead.

Well there is this body of water called the Columbia River fairly close by.

I don't have Win 7, but you should be able to right-click the link in the browser, then use "save as..." to save the file first, then open it with media player.
