The answer to both is yes but targetting eels solely via hydrophone is extremely difficult and becomes more or less a lottery.
You can alter the launch depth of the eels via the submarine type CFG files....there is a recent mod release out their by pickinthebanjo called Deeper Launch Depth: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...r+launch+depth
