Underwater Shot
Is it possible to shoot your torpedoes from deeper than periscope depth? If so will they rise to the proper depth no matter how deep you are?
Hypothetical situation: I'm hanging out in the Irish Sea and I come across a battle group of 4 destroyers and a carrier. I see the carrier way ahead of time and get my targeting solution. Could I dive to 40m (or more?) and keep track of the carrier via the hydrophones, and then fire at the appropriate time ? Another situation: I'm cruisin around underwater and a convoy just happens to show up and cross my path so I end up in the middle smack. I end the flags as all British from while they are a ways off and dive to 30m. Could I just get my targeting data completely via sonar and then fire? (setting my torpedos to impact at 3m since I don't necessarily know the boat type from just sonar) |
The answer to both is yes but targetting eels solely via hydrophone is extremely difficult and becomes more or less a lottery.
You can alter the launch depth of the eels via the submarine type CFG files....there is a recent mod release out their by pickinthebanjo called Deeper Launch Depth: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...r+launch+depth |
Yes...

IRC you can't open the torpedotubes beyond 20m.

It's certainly nice to see my mod going to good use, and yes even the XXI can if you enable that mod. I think the XXI is good up to like 60-80m or something

I just uploaded V1.1 to my mediafire account.
The only real difference is in the telegraph speeds, they are adjusted so ahead slow is manouvering speed (1 knot) and ahead one third is around 8 knots |
Definitely sounds like a cool mod. I'm still curious what the situation is in straight GWX though?
|
In stock GWX you can open your tubes and fire torpidos from any depth 20m and above. As noted it is realy only possible to hit a ship generaly as oppesed to when using the parascope you can pick your spot on the target ship. But with a little practise you can strike targets fairly regularly using the hydrophones.
