Am I looking in the right place? Because it seems GWX only ever sends it boats to the east coast of England and Scotland.

I'm happy to show patrols from uboat.net which were to the Baltic, the Kategatt, and to points off Norway, which it seems GWX3 does not do.

What could be causing this discrepancy?

You could just use JScones SH3 Commander to change the Patrol Zone assignment to what you want before starting the sim. BTW GWX does not award renoun for patroling the assigned grid, so you can go anywhere you want with no loss of renoun.

I know, HW3 But that doesn't really answer me questions

Here are a few patrols from Flotilla I boats in Sep 1939 which illustrate my point:

If you want to reconstruct real life events/patrols then surely using Commander as already suggested would be the best way....otherwise randomisation may send you to a different area when compared with the RL corresponding time frame.

Well, kind of... Many patrols were to English waters, though, it's just that it wasn't ALL of them. I was thinking that a few random grids in Baltic waters would liven things up a bit for GWX. The random element is part of what makes SHIII fun, no? Adapting to whatever BdU, the weather, and the enemy throws at you!

If we follow the SHIII Commander argument to its conclusion, why have patrol grids at all? Just pick a point on the globe and go. Very and I understand some players play like that and that is cool. However, others prefer the challenge of doing your best in an environment you do not have 100% control over...

Then I'd suggest you interrogate the ME first and see what traffic is scripted there.

Who knows, you mightn't think it worthwhile.
