I only had a few of those sonar torps, but I found them great for shooting escorts.

But if you meant that you were attacking enemy ships with friendly ships around I think you should have known that you should have not to used the sonar torps, otherwise, if there are no friendly ships about, a sonar torp is not a bad idea...

they suck IF you ignore the rules to use them.
shoot, silent running, sink to 50 meters. Both of you. once the fish leaves the tube it is DESIGNED to behave the way it behaves - running wild; striking the first target it hears. Torpedo fail? no! the torpedo works the way it is meant to work. Kaleun fail? yes! a free running turning torpedo in the water should make you go silent and sink. That is the way you have been taught at naval warfare school. if you kick each other in the ass, dont come whining then! Both of you had a communications and/ or weapon usage problem.

The early ones are a bit iffy, but they have their uses. I'd not want to load up a lot of them, but I like to have a couple in my stern tubes to keep over inquisitive escorts away. and yeah, if I want to stay and watch I stop the motors so I don't get a "return to sender".
