As Neal said he has a light touch policy but that doesn't mean it can be abused.
No! I just think that people like you are afraid of free speech. People here have a CHOICE get it, to either read or not read a post and reply accordingly. Funny it seems that political posts here get the most traffic which refutes your opinion as to what is interesting or not. You sir have a bad problem with closing threads that do no appeal to you and have offended no one. Keep up the good work....NOT!

SUBSIM is not supposed to be a free speech zone.

I mean, 1939, Munich, Big Brother and all that, but it's Neal's house we're in. Even if GT is more like playing marbles in the dust outside (granted, I barely post anywhere else).

Xabba is imo a very good moderator we have here, cutting things short where needed, but staying in the background where possible. We owe him thanks for doing a very good job.

Challenging moderator's policies in public and attacking them, can win persons some brig time and even a banning, since moderators do not run their personal agenda, but should enforce compliance with forum rules where these get violated or ignored, and thus their rules and forum rules are one and the same. forum rules are not open to debate - you either comply, or you leave, or you get kicked, period. I read in the fine print black on white that attacks on the moderators is a no-no. If somebody has a problem with a mod, approach him in PMs, or present your complaint to the admin. Do not try to undermine his authority by public attacks and stabs from behind.

Keep on the good work, Xabba, and thanks for your efforts!

No. Just let the "copy and paste + insert oneliner" and "I read this and I'm upset + one link" spam die from no attention.
Post your own non-political topics, or contribute to other kind of topics yourself in order to dilute the rubbish. If people complaining about the trash posting came up with more of their own topics, which they find worthwhile or interesting, it would be all good.

cheers porphy

Fine line and both have a valid point (Xabba and Frame). However, Frame needs a bit more tact! Anyway, yes, people should recognize when they are rubbing folks the wrong way with continuing in any particular thread. Specifically when a multitude of people are chiming in about it. Frame is correct also that folks do not need to read it. Move on to something else. It is a two way street.

As far as Xabba, GT is the toughest forum to moderate. Period! There is such a multitude of personalities from all over the world that it is surprising there is not more head banging with disagreements. So, before anyone states how things should go and what needs to be done concerning moderation of the GT forum, step in the shoes first starting on a Friday night when the moon is full and everyone has been drinking. Break out your refs whistle and see how ya do Keep up the good work Xabba.

We could encourage the users to use [POL] in the title. That way, all users would know that this is a political discussion thread, and he/she can either choose to read it or avoid it.

So how about that? [POL] for topic titles instead of a new sub forum?
It's a good idea, but I don't think it's necessary. It's pretty easy to know you're entering a political thread when looking at most titles. And, if you get duped in, you're never more than a press of the "Back Button" away.

Same here. I wouldn't mind seeing one, but voted 'No' anyway as I think it's unnecessary.

Yes. 1000 times yes. The political spammers would get so much less gratification that way.

It should at the very least be tried, IMO.

Hear hear! That's one job I don't envie.

I tend to avoid GT because of the political stuff, usually it's about US politics anyway so I can't possibly form an argument either way. Splitting of the politics would make it more "accesible", but would in the end only clutter the place up, I guess.

Instead of a forum based on topic, could we have a separate forum where all posts from "certain" individuals go automatically?

We could just call it 'Hell'. Instead of being banned you can only read and post to that forum.
