Food 'tasters' go all the way back to King Henrys time. Why is this news?

I thought with modern technology and security measures we had thrown off this legacy which was the domain of kings.

If it isn't news you may at your discretion ignore this and any other of my posts. Sorry.

I wonder if this was the meal where his children were at. If so, it may be more for the allergies and stuff.

From a protection point of view a food taster is rather worthless. There are many poisons and toxins that can kill you within hours/days that have no taste at all.

Sounds like much ado about nutton.

So a taster with the same allergies as the kids was called in? Stranger and stranger.

Agreed....but the fodd is French (snails and frogs spring to mind), so in this case I'll make an exception

Long before that actually.

Obama should just do what Mithridates the Great did, poison himself daily (then take the cure) so that he builds up an immunity to poison.

But what if they don't use the same kind of poison he builds immunity up to?

I would gladly work as the taster for the president.

I mean are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how good REAL french food is?

Yeah, Cleopatra did it, if Astérix's anything to go by - and why wouldn't it? (Also, the live action version of that movie is on the short list for best comedy ever, in my book.)

And any president who can pull the iocaine powder gambit is A-OK by me.
