It actually might be interesting to see all the internet tough guy "not givin up my guns for nuthin!" (despite the fact that noone is talking about taking them) crowd go up against the 82nd airborne and a couple of tank divisions. We should put it on pay per view.

Considering that alot of those "guys" as you call them are probably ex or current military. All of the military veterans I know are pro gun! Marines in my experiance being the most gun loving. So getting the army to squash the very ideals of the Constitution they are supposed to support isnt gonna happen. Also if you try to use the military to disarm the citizen you might find revolts in the military itself! And its "No more taxes" not Texas! lol |

Zacstar - States Rights a "new" idea?
I'm sorry - but the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified December 15th, 1791. That would make the idea about.. oh... 217 years old, plus a few months. Somehow that doesn't seem all that "new" to me. Instead, it seems the states, and the people in them, have had enough of it to actually read a little bit of how our system of government is supposed to work and figured out they have some rights that they choose to utilize. If 217 years old is a "new" idea - then I guess the idea that the Constitution is a "living" document open to interpretation using foreign laws is barely born. I don't know about you - but I think I would rather listen to the wisdom of a 217 year "NEW" idea than the ramblings of a freshly born judicial activist idea that doesnt even hold water under the light of common sense.

And those are poorly-trained incompetents they are fighting. As August mentioned, a lot of current military members and retirees wouldn't even fight U.S. citizens. Assuming that this hypothetical conflict was over the kinds of issues we are talking about here, a lot of U.S. troops and veterans would be fighting for the right-wingers. Almost half of the entire U.S. Marine Corps is from Texas, which is a pretty conservative state. They are a lot more dangerous than today's run-of-the-mill insurgents for two reasons. 1) Morale. They have more of it and the people fighting them will have less of it, for a lot of reasons. Mostly because it is extremely demoralizing to have to fight your own countrymen. The people putting down the insurrection do not have a cause. A lot of them would probably be conscripts. 2) Training and skill. Besides the fact that a lot of "right-wing extremists" are familiar with the proper use, care, and employment of firearms, the fact that they might have trained combat veterans amongst them makes them very dangerous. A well-trained fireteam can render a modern battletank combat ineffective in a few seconds using small arms, 2 molotov cocktails(or 1 and a smoke grenade), a rock(of all things), and a sledgehammer. That's an extreme example, but one person can destroy a main battle tank with a steel cylinder, a piece of lead, a few ounces of plastic explosive, a car battery, and a few yards of wire. An entire platoon can be destroyed using shell primers, a couple boxes of nails, duct tape, and a model rocket engine igniter. And all that is before we get into the really interesting possibilites. I really, really, hope it does not ever come to a civil war but if it does, you might want to think twice about the faith you seem to have in the state military.

Coherent arguments only exist in your mind so long as you agree with them, August. You should take your own advice.
"Advice" Try it. You can put a rolling on the floor laughy guy under than one too, Aramike. It's equally as funny I suppose... ![]() Go team hand holders!

And while I appreciate the subtle sarcasm below: Quote:
In these times, people are protesting the lousy change that you voted for. It is a protest against turning the real America into something it's not. Even the Blue Dog Democrats don't like what's going on, and are taking action. The people out there are the ones who actually make the country work and are the ones who do love America. As you also see them protesting Republicans against their big government efforts as well. And they are definitely not with your people, they are against them. Count on it. But as such, we'll see who is actually shown the door in the end..... Last edited by Sea Demon; 04-17-09 at 12:06 AM. |

When I was watching the tea parties on the news, I suddenly saw what the purpose was and I can say I am totally onboard.
It became clear to me when I heard the crowd chanting No to Texas! No to Texas! ![]()
