problem with objectives i have already completed

Playing sh4 recently. On my way to the patrol zone - celebes sea - i sunk 3 merchant ships yarr!. I completed my objective by arriving at the patrol zone at the celebes sea, only to find a new objective "sink enemy merchant shipping" but i've already sunk stuff i thought ok no probs i'll just sink something else, i do exactly that i sink another ship and the objective remains incomplete!

Heres the question/s: How do i complete that objective. I seem to have completed it already. I'm low on torps + fuel already should i just return to base in fremantle will i still complete the patrol successfully if i do?

BTW just thought id mention i actually live about 20 minutes from fremantle in the city of Perth Western Australia, does anyone know anything about the history of American subs stationed in fremantle, the first i knew that they were even stationed here was when i played this game, knew they were in brisbane but my home port ha! how about that
