Default Tips on avoiding sub nets and mines

For the benefit of clayp and others who may be having problems, I thought I'd post my tactics for avoiding the cause of many an angry simmer.
  • Anti-Submarine Nets -
    • Usually found scattered around critical ports and inlets (Tokyo Harbour, for example)
    • Due to their construction, not all of the inlet will be covered by the net, usually just the sides to prevent submarines sneaking in past patrol routes
    • To avoid them, either brave going straight in past the patrolling craft, or shadow another vessel (you may have to wait a while) as it comes in or out of the bay to find the best route.
    • Remember, turkey shoots dont come for free in SH4, so if you're not sure, it may be a better idea to stay outside and nab ships coming in or out, or not bother and not risk your boat
  • Mines -
    • I never thought these existed in the game until the front of my boat was blown off
    • Usually found in shallow waters surrounding ports or shipping lanes
    • To avoid them, stick to deep waters (70 feet or more) and proceed submerged where you suspect mines will be. Go slowly, so should one hit you but not destroy you in one, you dont risk drifting into another and finishing the deal
    • If you suspect you are in a minefield, proceed on the surface and retrace your steps slowly, keeping a sharp eye on the bridge for any disruptions on the water's surface
    • Minefields could in principal also be your friend. If you are being pursued and know there are shallow mines in an area of deep water, try going there and sitting close to the bottom. If the enemy ship doesnt blow itself up looking for you, it'll steer clear.
Its all common sense really, but since there are no specific ways to detect mines without the external camera, there's not alot you can do to combat them other than plan your attacks carefully.

Hope this helped a little.
