GW Kapselgeblase

After completing the 8th. patrol with U-49 (type VIIB) I see I can upgrade the engines with a type of shaft driven supercharger.
A search revealed this information in a post;

While that seems well and fine Im puzzled by what this upgrade will do to range / fuel-consumption (game mechanics). So, for you all that have used this upgrade whats your take? Seems like a logical upgrade but it never hurts to ask.
