Here in California (where, incidentally almost all of the entertainment news media is headquartered, hence the extreme media interest) the Arnold situation has become a bit of a "Kharma" situation. Aside from totally trashing the state's economy even more than the the Democratic-controlled State Assembly and Senate could have managed on its own, aside from trashing the California state Republican Party even more than they could on their own, he perpetrated an unusally cynical, cruel and appalingly crass final act when he left the Goernor's office: He commuted the 16 Year manslaughter sentence of the son of a political crony to 7 years literally in his final minutes as Governor as he was walking out the office door. The California constitution mandates that the families of the victims of a fatal crime be notifed and be given the opportunity to comment or object prior to the sentence commutation, parole or pardon of the criminal. Arnold did not do this and the victim's family is livid about the commutation.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Núñez's son, Esteban was convicted of second-degree manslaughter pursuant to a guilty plea in connection with the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old college student Luis Santos during a drunken brawl on San Diego State University campus in October 2008, after being refused entrance to a fraternity party. Three other men were also beaten and stabbed in the incident but survived. Esteban and his three alleged accomplices initially entered not guiltypleas; Esteban and his friend Ryan Jett pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, and the other two accomplices pleaded to lesser charges, after jury selection started in early May 2010. He was sentenced on June 25, 2010 to 16 years in prison for the death of Santos. He was also sentenced under two additional felony counts. On January 2, 2011, outgoing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger commuted the sentence of Esteban Núñez, reducing it from 16 years to seven years, stating that he felt the 16-year sentence was "excessive" given that Esteban was not "the actual killer" and Santos' fatal wound was supposedly inflicted not by Núñez himself but by his accomplice Ryan Jett...

Schwarzenenegger responded to the controversy stating, "Well hellooooo. I mean, of course you help a friend."...
Not stated in the Wkikpedia article is the fact Estaban did stab two other other persons [serious, non-fatal] in the commission of his crimes. Also, Arnold refused to commute the sentences of of other prisoners of equal or lesser involvment in similar crimes. I don't know how it is in other places, but here in California, if you participate in a crminal activity resulting in death, even if you did not directly kill the victim(s), you are liable as if you had actually commited the act itself.

Arnold may seem popular to the outside world, but here he is decidedly not Mr. Popularity. So all this thats happening to him may be a case of "What goes around..."
