Sub in Convoy

Hi all!

I got SH3 only a couple of months ago, and have recently downloaded GWX 3.0 which is awesome (thanks to all who have worked on it!). I play the game with 100% realism - although it is more difficult, I find it far more satisfying. As a relatively new user, I have a couple of questions and this forum has to be the best place to ask:

1) In some convoys there appears to be the odd submarine, normally positioned in the central column. What is this? I can only assume it is british/american/kretschmer(lol) but there are no entries in the recognition manual for subs etc.

2) When loading some savegames I have experienced repeated crashes, like the savegame is corrupted - it appears to happen when there are other ships in the area, as oppose to being alone at sea.
