Sub in Convoy
 

Hi all!

I got SH3 only a couple of months ago, and have recently downloaded GWX 3.0 which is awesome (thanks to all who have worked on it!). I play the game with 100% realism - although it is more difficult, I find it far more satisfying. As a relatively new user, I have a couple of questions and this forum has to be the best place to ask:

1) In some convoys there appears to be the odd submarine, normally positioned in the central column. What is this? I can only assume it is british/american/kretschmer(lol) but there are no entries in the recognition manual for subs etc.

2) When loading some savegames I have experienced repeated crashes, like the savegame is corrupted - it appears to happen when there are other ships in the area, as oppose to being alone at sea.

1. They're British submarines added by the GWX team. Check out page 367 in the GWX manual. I've seen them also, but never tried sinking one so I couldn't give you any pointers there.

2. SH3 has long had trouble when saving around other ships, especially while submerged. For instance, if you save in port and re-load, the AI controlled ships seem to lose their waypoints and beach themselves and burn. The best advice I can give you to avoid this wonkiness is to not save while submerged, and not to save while around other ships.

As mookie said, they're AI subs added in by GWX. Less than 2000 tons, but IIRC I once got about 500 or so renown for sinking a T-Class. :hmm: Last patrol I spotted an S-Class traveling with a convoy. Dodged both my torpedoes while zig-zagging.

Many thanks for the help/advice. I imagine they are tough to sink so probably best to use my torpedoes on more suitable targets. With regard to the GWX manual, the pdf file I have seems to be faulty too so will have to download another version.

S Class 320

T Class 420

Is there a concise listing of the renown values for the ships in GWX? I suppose I could tear through the data files, but that's pretty cumbersome.

Awful lot of renown for 1300 tonnes.

Yeah but how often are you going to see an enemy submarine, much less get a chance to sink it? :hmm:

Knocked off a S class on my last patrol. Used the deck gun and had me a wonderful time!:D

Don't forget:
- Multiply the renown by -1 if the unit sunk is neutral (default as per Basic.cfg)
- Multiply the renown by -10 if the unit sunk is your ally (default as per Basic.cfg)

I second that, a very useful piece of information:up: . Just one thing, I notice there isn't a renown figure against the Large Modern Tanker, presumably an oversight, but do you know what it is?
