Is this a bug...

It's November 1940 & Oblt. z See Hermann Rausch (U-69) is the the middle of patrol # 3. He just hit an 11,000+ ton Large Merchant in BF13 with one T1 set with a magnetic fuse. It exploded almost right under the bow. His weapons officer reported that the torpedo had missed but 1-2 seconds later reported "she's going down". Sure enough, she was going down.

Does anyone else experience this? Mind you, he's not complaining about getting the merchant. 5 hours earlier he'd been driven off a convoy by a pair of Hunt I class destroyers.

Playing with GWX 2.1, SH3 Cmdr 3.13 & a few other GWX compatible mods.

Yeah, occasionally magnetic hits/misses are not correctly assessed by your WE.

That explains it. I've often wondered about this in the past but never got around to asking about it until now.

Thanks.

Once happened the same to me, I engaged a destroyer, fire a magnetic fuse torp and officer informed: Torpedo miss; I fired another one just to realize it would hit in a sinking ship . I did not confirmed the miss through the periscope!

Magnetic torps fired with an AOB close to 90, will often explode on the other side after having gone under the ship. Usually close enough to cause damage.

I've been at an odd angle shooting at a docked ship, so the spread I fired had one torp hitting a few seconds before the clock, and one a few seconds after. Just long enough for the WO to think the second one had missed because it took too long!
