Default [REL] Captain Cox Redux – Better Scopes

FYI: This mod Changes the Menu_1024_768.ini file

5/10/08 - Addition of Better Scopes for SH4 v1.4

I did an adaptation of Captain Cox’s Better Scope mod to SH4 v1.5.

As I keep adding these visual effect that I prefer I keep them in one mod. They change the menu_ini file so keeping all these in one mod only made since to me. Also on day I really need to get a bigger monitor but until then I’ll keep shrinking things.

Smaller Chrono – redo Captain Cox
Smaller Nav Tools – redo Captain Cox
Hi Res Gauges – Jimimadrid
Better Scope – redo Captain Cox

06/28/09 - Update Links

Smaller Chrono - Nav Tools - ect

Individual versions can be found at the same location

Happy Hunting

Its only been tested with PE3.

If TM doesn't use the menu1024_768.ini file then I see no reason that it shouldn't work. JSME will warn you of any conflict.

Is this to be added on top of worn scopes 1.3? Otherwise the download is not correct. I'm only getting a filesize of less than 1meg (6.? kb) NEVER MIND!!!! Sorry..I tried for the 4th time and got the complete download. Thanks!

Well....I did finally get the complete download but.......The RAR file say's betterscopes 1.5. After extraction it say's 1.3 and does not appear to be 1.5 compatable.

This will install on 1.5 with no issues.
The menu.ini changelog shows the edits made to make this 1.5 compatible.

I installed this with TMO 1.5.2 but have not tested RFB yet.

To use this with TMO or RFB, delete the menu_1024_768.ini file from the betterscopes mod before installing with JSGME.
Then merge the new menu.ini edits using my betterscopes.ini file using JTxE to retain the TMO or RFB functionality.

I took the information from the changelog to create a .ini file for use with jimimadrid's JTxE program. This allows one to merge edits into a text file (like menu_1024_768.ini) without overwriting the entire file.

You can find JTxE in this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123521.

You can find my betterscopes.ini file here http://hosted.filefront.com/scottb8411/2260656.

Interesting info there Scott, thanks for the reply. I'm just beginning to fiddle with some files myself. Today I managed to figure out how to keep the TMO Nomograph in place, instead of the imperial nomo that comes with the scopes I'm finding. The nomo in TMO is accurate. The other has some inconsistantcies (the blue nomo). Check the speed at 3 minutes and 400 yards...It shoud read 4knts. It doesn't, at least on my puter. I've posted this before, but I don't think anyone caught it. What I wondered about and posted, was questioning if screen resolutions had any effect on the accuracy of the nomo. I don't beleive it does, as most speeds read correctly and the info does not appear skewed. I haven't checked the whole thing, but when I discovered that error, I just didn't trust it any more. The TMO nomo (don't really know who created it) is on the money.

Oops! Hate to admit it, but I was full of doo doo about the nomo. DOH! What an idiot I feel like. I discovered that the nomo I was using had the time and speed columns inverted and thus the inaccuracy. The funny thing is it still read accurate for most readings, but not all. I still prefer the nomo I was using. I don't know exactly who's creation it was, but it was much more detailed than the one most commonly available now. I can't seem to find it anywhere. It had the time (minutes) on the right hand side. This also seemed to work better because when dragging the ruler, you pulled it to the toward the inside instead of the outside of the screen. I say this because after using the more common one, I tend to drag the ruler too far to the outside and thus, autoscroll kicks in and the map shifts. It's very annoying to me. I wish there was a way to disable the auto scroll feature. I was wishing this before the nomo thing. Anyone know how to do this?
