Default Gwx2.1 bridge binoculars.

Having dowloaded and installed gwx2.1.I was wondering if anyone else has this or noticed the bridge binoculars have no compass bearings. The UZo has them but not the binocs.

Correct
Binoculars wouldnt have had bearings on them

The Uzo is a suface attack sight and would have had them

realism, IRL your binocs can't tell the bearing. So if you want to see the bearing, use UZO

Welcome aboard, Rabid! Binocz wityh bearings came in quite a few years after WWII. The GWX team makes things more realistic for us. GRRRRR :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes, is more real , but for gameplay it´s more difficult.:hmm:

But in real life is very easy know the aproximate bearing because you can look a bit outside of the ocular lens and see portions of the tower and other.

That's why I use the Uzo instead of the binoculars!

Sorry, using the UZO is also not realistic. IIRC, the UZO was only ordered up from below and mounted when it was to be used in the final stage of a surfaced torpedo attack. It was too precious an instrument to be left laying around topside. Also, it could not be left mounted topside when boat submerged.

The binoculars without bearings is more realistic but the problem is that within the framework of a game, the player does not possess the awareness of which direction he is generally looking toward so it is impossible within the game to have a general awareness of direction as one rotates the binoculars. I find that I have to use the thumb-wheel while using the binoculars to see which way I'm now facing on the conning tower to give me an idea of approximate bearing.

I'm sure there will be some discussion on this topic because it does change habits and makes the game a little bit harder.

I never said using the Uzo in such a fashion was realistic... however, its up there permanently therefore... you may as well use it to your advantage.

Removing the bearing indicator on the binnoculars is disorientating I grant you and agree, and Ive had ages to test this out and I have to flick back and forth between bridge and binnocs using the mousewheel to get a rough idea where I am looking.

I would deny most strenuously that the removal of this makes the game harder... mainly because the only time you are really going to use your binnoculars to scan yourself is when your AI lookouts spot something, you will then look in that direction to see if there is more, really its not that hard... just a little inconvenient.

As I say, if that is too much realism for the player... and for me it is occasionally... just use the Uzo. Simple.

I have a 5.1 sound setup, when scanning the horizon I can hear the diesel noises shift from speaker to speaker. It's not really accurate but I always know what 45 degree section I am looking at. (I have a real diesel sound mod, louder when on the bridge).
And putting the binocs down every once i a while to get your bearings works well too and seems realistic, in movies and such you always see them put the binocs down, staring at the horizon ant then raising the binocs again.

IMHO, i think its ok that the compass bearing isnt in the binoculars. I totaly understand that this makes it more difficult, due to von zelda's note on awareness, but i think i can live with this. (Possibly there could be an optional mod for this in the future, so that people could choose between bearings / no bearings)

BTW: I think my GWX 2.1 bridge crew has recieved super sight...They can spot ships long before i can see them in the binocluars... I get "Schiff Geschicted" , and the message with the bearing. When i use the binoculars, UZO or periscope to try to fint the ship, i just see the horizon...Using the 16k mod, i believe i should be able to see the ships when my crew does.. now they become visible between 9-13k..(haven't measured excactly, but it's somewhere around those numbers...) Is this the way it should be..Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me..?

Over on the mod forum, Reece recently released a mod: SH4_Scene_8k GWX2.0 (or something like that) that included a file to change crew visibility to approximately 11K. In the description he stated, stock SH3 was set to 8k while GWX was set to 16K. Thus, those playing 8k version, crew seems to have supervision.

Maybe Reece could share more information on this topic and release a mod for GWX2.1 that changes only this crew visibility factor for the 8k version.

I have a quick fix for those that find it hard or inconvenient to play GWX 2.1.

Play Stock SH-3 at 0 Realism And put tokens in your computer and yell "Mommy thanks for taking me to Chucky Cheese" where kids can whine all day.:p

edit: if this offended anyone. TS. I have a hangover.

Thanx for the reply, mate! I sure hope he does, it would be excellent!
