[TEC] SH4 crash

Can anyone help please? Installed Vista SP1. SH4 loaded, runs opening but crashes out as you get to the Object List ( Naval Academy, Career etc.)
SH3 runs a treat!

Graphics Card GeForce Nvidia 8800GT
Quad Intel Processor
Memory 4GB
Hard Disc 92% Free

So many problems with Vista.

Install as Admin, be careful not to install "Free Vista Codec Pack". If you have remove them and install the game fresh from the disk including codecs.

If you want to use mods, don't install into Program Files, make sure you have latest DX installed...

Make sure you let the game install DX9 also, even if you have DX10 on your system.

Someone at Mickeysoft doesn't know how to count, Vista should be a 4 letter word

My v1.4 SHIV is crashing also. I am using WinXP x64. Other specs include:
Nvidia GeForce 8800GS vid(single, not SLI), ASUS Crosshair mothb., 8Gig ram and SoundMax onboard sound, 650watt PS. It's a new system with new drivers.:p

I was at Saipan, mid 1942 and sent many anchored and unprotected Marus to bottom. Just as I was leaving the area, I clicked on the Binoculars and the system crashed to desktop. A save I made prior to arriving at Saipan is apparently unable to load as well. Not all saves bad,... just in the Saipan area

It let me know that Silent Hunter IV has encountered a problem and
needs to close.

I've modded my SHIV a lot:
Taihosan Maru fix, Smaller Seabed Rocks, Smaller Sea Plants Medium, TRMs subsound update, TRMs Ingame Sound Update V.1, Taskbar Various Mods Final, Sub Bearing tool 3000 yard, Sobers better crew, RSRDC_P2_v201, ParaB fewer radio contacts, ParaB tweaked air strikes, Environment mod, Combined Uniform Mod 1.0, Colored Torps Mod stg 2, Brighter Torp wakes.

Some in this forum have suggested that the onboard sound is the root of all evil, with SHIV, however I was playing SHIV on an older system with a Soundblaster live 24bit card and that crashed more often than my current setup.

Are there any fixes in the Uboat expansion?

Update on my current situation: I bought and installed the SHIV Uboat expansion even though I never play Uboats. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and have not had a single crash to desktop in this campaign. Wonder why? Right after I bought and installed the Uboat expansion I played and crashed and then gave up for a while. I started my current campaign in Jan 44' in a Balao. It seems that if I skip 1943 and/or Gato boats my system is not going to crash. So anyone.... Why is 1943 and Gato boats so crash happy? BTW I am in May 1945 and still going

You may want to check your sound drivers again.
I have the same chip and could solve many things with the driver version 6.0.1.6xxx although it was hard to find, most versions out there have a .5xxx at the end and are years older, yet still falsely reported "newest".
Many sound mods rely on up to date drivers.

Why? Things are fine in 44' and in the Balao sub. Are you suggesting that my sound drivers are fine gametime wise between 1941-43 and again in 44-45? Or that my sound drivers blow only in a Gato?
