Naval acadamy AAA and the oh S#*t factor

Well having reloaded evrything working out some bugs I redid my naval acadamy. Gratuating my first two courses top of my class I thought the Anti Aircraft would be a breeze.

So I headed out in my training type VII and leisurly told the watch officer to post to the 20mm AA gun. When out of nowhere come these explosions folowed by "Were taking damage sir!" What the hell has Tommy found our training grounds I thought as I climbed topside.

What I saw shocked me, Bullets and bombs raining all around my boat. It was like Pearl Harbour and I was the only battle ship in port! Quicky I order flank speed and full left rudder, at least I wont be a sitting target. Then I got a repair crew together and got them working on my 3 flooding compartments. After that I pulled yet another dead crewman off the AA gun and waiving my fist in the air I yelled "Dont you dumbkopfs know this is supposed to be training!" And with that I let my 20mm do the talking.

One after another thay dove on my circling wretched remnants of a boat and one by one I returned their calls. Soon their numbers were down to three Hawker Hurricanes. "To damn fast number 1, I cant get lead!" Just then I received mission accomplished and steamed due south at flank speed holding that AAA gun skyward incase they wanted to play tag.

Mission score: Satisfactory. (I lost 6 crewman and patched holes with bubble gum and ductape) I say freaking Excellent!

Seems like the AAA school got a bit tougher since I went through it. In my days the targets were just hard to hit but didn't shoot or bomb the students.

Congratulations!

I recently had to reformat my hard drive. I went through the Accadamy again also, same here, the AAA test was just murder.............took many attempts to just get a passing score. Also, when I did the convoy, I sank everything but forgot to change it to the "test"..... Had to do it all over again.

Isn't that regular AAA-training on every country?

Yup, the AA course has got harder in GWX2.0. The best I got was 4 aircarft (all swordfish), with 64% hull remaining and a few dead crew .

Prior to installing GWX, I seem to remember shooting down all the aircarft with no damgage whatsoever.

Keep restarting the AA school until you get an excellent rating. On my second attempt, there were 2 Hurricanes that were still flying and I got excellent. Do "target incoming aircraft only" and you should do fine. "Fine" meaning a damaged uboat and a few dead crewmen, but you'll pass the course.

I'm not sure, but I think GWX2 starts you with the 1500 bonus renown whether you do the acadamy or not, so it really is just training now.

In the stock game the planes couldnt fire machine guns/cannons and had no bombs + you had more AA ammo, it was like swatting flies.

GWX2 makes it almost impossible although the academy is now largely redundant (as Sailor Steve said you start with the 1500 you would have gotten for the academy anyway)

If that is the case then I'm glad because when I re-installed SHIII and then GWX 2.0 a month back I didn't even bother with the academy. I prefer on the job training and it's worked so far with 11 patrols frm Sept 1940 to current mid 1941. Still not dead but give it another year or two.

Hi!

Sailor Steve is correct: in stock Silent Hunter III you were awarded starting renown for doing well in the tutorials, to a maximum of 1500 renown points; in GWX, you get the 1500 renown points automatically, so the tutorials are just used for training up.
