Default [REQ] 360º 3000 yd/meter bearing plotter for 1.5

This may have to be two mods, metric and imperial, but maybe not. We need the big bearing plotter for AmSubs and U-Boats. Ideally it would self-select imperial for AmSub and metric for U-Boat, but separate mods to load and unload would be nearly as good. Or gut.

Since the bearing plotter works by replacing the graphic for the sub displayed on the map, there's no reason why there couldn't be one mod to do an imperial for the American subs and a metric for the German subs.

...\Data\Submarine\NSS_Balao\NSS_Balao_shp.dds is the file name for the Balao that you would replace with a bearing plotter graphic. Any of the previous bearing plotter graphics should work.

What you would have to do is create a folder structure (JSGME compatible) that contained the folders for each sub in the game and place and name appropriately the imperial or metric bearing plotter graphics.

One of the old imperial bearing plotter mods could be used as the starting point. Then just add folders for the German subs and put a metric bearing plotter graphic in each of the German subs folders and name them to match what's in the games folders and you're all set.

Default You make it sound easy

Maybe I'll try it. Never made a decent mod before and it might be fun. I have an American T3 Tanker to perforate first.

I know for a fact, the imperial version for 1.3 works for 1.4. I could test it out this evening and let you all know at least on the FB side.

If I knew what the folder names and names for the _shp.dds files in the folders for the German subs were, I could put this together real quick. Alas, I don't have the addon (yet), so I don't know those folder and file names.

If my metric plotter still functions, awesome. BTW, a global Metric would be nice also. Imperial is french to me

SH4/data/Submarine/NSS_Uboat9d2 other is NSS_Uboat18

NSS_Uboat9d2_shp

NSS_Uboat18_shp

Is this what you wanted?

Yep, 1480, that was the info I needed Since Longam has already done one in all imperial, all that would need to be done is substitute a metric graphic for the two German subs files. I know there's one around here somewhere:hmm:

Default WTF!!!! (Why That's Funny)

Why is something so hard to find when it used to be so easy? I know it's Captain Cox 360 degree 3000 meter bearing plotter and all the search functions do is laugh at me.

Perfecto! Now, down to my sinister laboratory............

Edit: my vast army of beta testers tell me this is the standard bearing plotter, not the 3000 meter one we were looking for. The concept works though. We have imperial measurements in American subs and metric in German ones working perfectly. Not to get the right grid! The search continues...

Default Nope. Not right.

It's not working. It looks good but 3000 meters is only 2450 meters away according to my compass tool at 1280x1024. We have a scaling difficulty and I wonder if it's also not part of the 3000 yard measuring tool for the US Boats. I'm going to leave this one to a more knowledgeable modder than I.

Now I'm no expert... i recall reading that those bearing plotters were resolution dependant, which I take to mean depends on your screen ratio. Does the one you made work at say 1024x768 or at 1440x900? I'm just wondering since 1280x1024 is 5:4, 1024x768, 1600x1200, etc are all 4:3, and 1440x900, 1680x1050 and so on are all 16:10.
Just thought I'd mention in the off chance it might actually make a difference...
I know I run at 2560x1600, and I haven't found a bearing plotter that actually shows the correct ranges yet.

Nope, I believe the problem is scaling due to differences in screen resolution. If I remember correctly (odds probably around -10%:rotfl: ) an image that works correctly at 1024x768 won't scale correctly at 1680x1050 and vicey-versey. Nothing the 3000 yard tool does could influence the metric since they are two totally seperate textures. I gave up long ago on the distance measuring aspect of the tools and just use the angle measuring aspect. Since I have difficulty seeing very well (yeah, I know, I should put my glasses on, but the tri-focals get in the way) it helps a lot to know which way to point the periscope to find a sound contact.

Edit: please note that I got sidetracked while posting this and am not just an echo:rotfl: (slow maybe )
