Default Depth Charges miss every time! frustrating!

Thats right not a single tin can dropped has hit me yet, every time i am being tracked by a destroyer or destroyers they miss on every pass, makes for a very boring game and i was just getting excited with my first convoy attack using olc gui's tools to get firing solution.

I am running GWX 1.03 with the following mods installed

GWX-captain americas officer icons
GWX-english nav map and grid refs
GWX-lite harbour traffic
GWX-no medals on crew
GWX-reduced positive buoyancy
OLC GUI 1.2.3 core files (with double mast values installed to make this mod work)

I was running sh3 with gwx 1.03 with nomograph and 360 deg bearing plotter only installed originally and same problem

btw I installed GWX with the installer wizard provided not via jsgme

I apologize if this problem has already been posted but could not find it anywhere on the forum help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but sometimes I just can't help it. When SH3 was in the planning stages they let out that every mission would be scripted. After much howling and threats from us, the buyers, they changed it to a 'dynamic' campaign. What happened? People started complaining that the "patrol your grid" was boring.

What, you might well ask, does that have to do with your complaint? Just this: when SH3 was released, everyone complained about "laser-guided depth charges" that never missed. People looked into it and finally, after much research and hard work, came up with a system that was much more historically accurate. Destroyers' sensors were modified so that when they actually reached the drop point their sonar couldn't hear you anymore, so they were dropping blind. Depth charge damage radius was lowered to historical levels, so a blast 50 meters away could no longer kill you (historical kill radius was about 8 meters).

My question for you is this: what year are you playing in? It should be pretty easy up until 1943; after that, you'll be lucky to survive.

If you're in the early war not many will get you.
Crews were Green then.
Later it gets, the better they get.
Most people complain that the cans are to accurate.
Can't please everyone all the time.

Dang!!

Default Fair enough

Yeah i ommitted to mention that it is in fact late 1940 in my patrol

I thought that might be the case actually, i mean it makes sense, early war more primitive technology = innacurate DC's, but i figured it was so innacurate it was a bug evidently not

well now i know i guess.

CHeers for quick response btw.

back to my patrol

Hi,

I'm in April 42 and i must say this : If i make a just little mistake, they will hit me and my crew. Don't worry, soon you will have to be extremly careful if you want to survive.

Many things to consider :

Year ; Depht of the sea ; State of the sea (hard conditions is your friend); number of ennemy units and skill ... and so on.

orange whale...

my recommendation would be to start a career in 1943 or 44, go to any BF grid and await contact with an escorted convoy. when you manage to make such contact try and sink at least one merchant and escape with your life... after 1943 a smart skipper wont even go after convoys anymore and will instead seek out lone targets of opportunity.

GWX2.0 has nailed the historical accuracy of crew experience when it comes to attacking submarines. in 1939-1941 the allies had no idea what they were up against, but in 1941-1942 they developed a skillfull ability to sink subs... by 1943 they are quite good at it, they knew how deep the subs could go, they knew where most of the subs were most of the time, they knew where you were headed, the allies had so much information regarding your abilities they almost knew what you were going to do before you did!

after 1944 the survival rate for even ONE mission for a sub crew dropped to nearly zero.

remember... from 1939 - 1941/2 YOU own the ocean... the allies fear YOU... not the other way around.

yeah!

I am in mid '42 and it gets really tough now... I use a VIIc and this boat though faster and more agil than the IX gets some beating almost every time I attack a convoy ...

Last time I took just one... ONE! ... hit and it was taking my torp room out and bringing the boat's hull down to 52%! Another hit and we would have been history...

Just be thankful you didn't get hammered yet. Make sure you have an officer and PO qualified for repairs. You're going to need them. He he.

Hence why 1939-41/2 were called the "Happy times".... German U Boats RULED the seas.

After mid/early 42..... NOT so happy times and you were lucky to finish one patrol.

GWX Simulates this VERY well.... In fact in my current career Im in March 1940, just hit a convoy and had 3 DD/DEs trying to find my boat. I was AMAZED how they worked as a team. 1 would run around and active ping while 2 stayed steady with Hydrophones. While they DC'ed me a few times and caused minor damage (I was only in 90m of water)..they were TENACIOUS in trying to find me.

I never seem to be able to make it much past 1943....but thats becuase either 1) I cannot resist hitting that convoy or 2) GWX releases the newest release and I like to do clean installs.
