Default Best mods

Ok, SH4 has just landed on my doormat.

Once I've patched it up, I want to 'dive in' with the best possible experience.

As there doesn't really seem to be a GWX equivelent and the list of compatible mods is..... confusing...

What combination of mods would you suggest?

*did a search for 'best mods' and got nothing so apologies if this question has already been answered.

Hi and welcome.

Best place to start is reading up on the various mods that are available. I just started subsimming about a year ago. Its great! Lots of tempting mods out there.

Read the threads about the;

Trigger Maru
Real Fleet Boat
Run Silent Run Deep Campaign
Reflections on the Water
Natural Sinking Mechanics

Then you can pick which way to go....or you may just want to do a multi-install of SH4, the possibilities are endless, but be prepared to be entertained. I knew nil about the Sub war in the Pacific but you learn a lot really quickly. Best to buy a book on the subject also, Silent Victory is good primer on the subject there are others too.

Welcome enjoy!

This is a great group of folks here, very helpful and SH4 is coming into its own very nicely.

These have become the "almost stock" mods, with sweeping changes to the game. There are lots of other ones that tweak this or that, and it's worth browsing through the mods forum slowly, trying stuff out. Hence, you do a fresh install and back up the install directory, in case you hose it up.

I didn't go with the big mods until I had played the stock game a little, just to get an idea for what stock really is. I got used to mods by doing little ones here and there, until I felt ready to go with the jumbos.

I run TM 1.7.6, RSRD 3, NSM 4 (my framerates are just borderline, so ROW is too much).

Someday, some guys are going to up and do a Supermod like GWX. That day is not here yet, because there's lots of modding yet to do.

Hi,
Im still a bit confused with the mods and which ones and in what order to generate them, Im spending a lot of time installing and re-installing
I have the following versions but im not sure if I dont need other versions (and from where to download them) Ive searched the board but get overwhelmed with all the different addons and whats compatible with patch 1.4 and other mods.....

I have ...........

Row Hi Res sea foam
Row object reflection and search light 5b
Row sky and ocean controls v5
Row sound effects v8
Row sub reflections and roll pitch mod v5
Row textures with sun halo camera flair v5
Row very slow clouds

Rsrdc p3 rfb v340
Nsm 4 classic
Rfb 1.4 for row rc1

Addon for reflections of water

I would like to use the Run Silent, Run Deep, the Campaign” (RSRDC) but Im not sure if it works with ROW? It seems every added mod wants to overwrite an existing one.....is this correct?

what order do I need to install them? and what do I do when Im asked to overwrite from other (installed mods) Im sure Im doing something wrong here because I get crashes when I install them all.

so in simple terms what is the most accepted mods and in what order do you need to install them (and from where to download them.

Sorry if this has been asked before but its a bit confusing.

Cheers

S!

Thankyou for the answers and the welcome.

I must admit, the reponses my queries had recieved both here and in the SH3 forum have impressed upon me what a fine bunch of guys you are.

Having played stock very briefly, I must say I found the slightly cartoony interface offputting, but, never one to dismiss something after such a short time I shall press ahead.

At least I won't feel like I'm sinking my fellow British countrymen any more.

You still might. Some ships carrying prisoners of war were sunk.
