It would sound plausible if there was anything to gain from it.
Disrupting communications in Iran might make sense as an immediate prelude to an attack, while wiretapping on internet cables could be done differently, I suppose.
On the other hand, these cables are for most of the middle east, so a lot of useful information must flow through there..
Maybe they did want to install a wire tap and something went wrong??

But that would mean the US intel community makes mistakes, something as unthinkable as them doing something criminal, isnt it???
After the history of the US wiretapping program's successes, I doubt that the 3 seperate cable cuts were performed by the US Intelligence Community...please note my post above about the probability of the Carter transiting the Suez Canal unseen.

So, the US might be tapping cables, this is nothing new, neither is the Russkies doing the same thing, or the Chinese doing it. They've been doing it for years, they will continue to do it for years. Call it underhand but if you sit high on a moral conscience, those who don't will destroy you.

Take a look at what happened in Norways waters in the Cold War...

Not even the crew knows where they are ... think I'm lying?

Oh, they know the general area, but the quartermaster on our boat was ordered to surround the chart table with a wall of paper that anyone passing by can't see the exact location.

Bar talk in Rota, Spain could tell you when your buddy on another boomer left port and when they were coming back in.

Thanks for sharing the wisdom, geetrue

They sort of do that on Silent Steel, but its just a piece of card that reads "TOP SECRET" over the patrol route.

.....and here's me thinking she was in a covered over drydock on some peanut farm having a final coat of varnish applied to her hull.

I highly doubt the boat would show itself anywhere near the area.

Partly my point...if the JC would've been responsible for the multiple cable cuts during those three days, the boat would've had to transit around Africa for goodness sakes.

When you add all these events with the docking of the Aegis ship San Jacinto at Haifa, you know something is up. Think about it, an Aegis ship, not excluding the fact that the San Jacinto is the #1 in her class, is by herself at the dock, it violates most procedures.

US Warship to Dock at Haifa

First, Aegis ships are on the outer ring of a carrier group. Their state of the art radar and sonar help protect the carrier(s). Where's the rest of the fleet?

Second, for her to be docked would indicate she is either damaged or carrying Israeli personnel, maybe even wounded. A mossad dive team that got messed up sabotaging the cables would explain it. They would be transferred to Israeli hospitals, not US hospital ships.

Third, an Aegis could provide a lot of useful signal intelligence to the Israelis while they were knocking out the cables. Naturally, the San Jacinto would have helped as much as it could while a running battle was going on beneath the surface between the USS Jimmy Carter with Russian and Iranian submarines. The SJ could also have been carrying survivors from the Carter.

The locations of the five breaks in the cables are so far apart that it would take a combined operation of several ships, submarines, and ROVs. Anyone surprised that the US would be involved?

:hmm:

Actually, it would take a small trawler to cut those cables.

Isn't Israel an ally of the US? Why should anyone be surprised that a ship makes a visit to an allied port, then? Also, where's the evidence that there was any sort of struggle involved there?

Seriously, anything could've taken out those cables. Why it has to be the most advanced sub in the world is beyond me. It's stupid.
