Easy mate, it's an old joke between friends, goes back to the good old days of SCXII and SCU. Trust me, I don't really think the Collins is a bad boat, I think she's a class act, I mean, she's taken on the US fleet before and done well. Just ask Stewy about the ribbing we used to give him back in the run up to SCXII, all given and taken in good humour.

Exactly. That's how this Aussie remembered it back in the Sub Command forum days. Ahhh the memories.

"ageing" my @rse.

And Channel 9 breaking into regular programming to show live footage from its chopper of a "submarine on fire", somebody's head should roll.
It's the commerical media, what did you expect? The Truth????:hmm::hmm:

I'm a tad confused by the story, if it was moving between Garden Is and Jervis Bay, why was it off the northern beaches?? southern i can understand, but not northern?

if the collins is aging now, what'll it be in 15 od years when they're due for retirement?!?
Well, strictly speaking, a submarine starts ageing as soon as it leaves the shipyard, much like a new born baby will age until it eventually dies some 80 years later.

Rgr that! Mind you if it's still floating after 80 years then it must have been built right!

The real situation/issue is technology overtaking it (the sub) and not it's actual physical age.
Just look at some of the boats that have been preserved from WWII and earlier
