Even if your in home waters? I was within a couple hundred miles of Midway when I ran out returning from patrol. No way to radio out the situation for friendly help so does that mean I've blown that career?

Reload the last saved game. Select a speed of two knots and limp to midway.

You know, before this I used to play ‘Sub Command’ and “688i” and found it so difficult to work out the sonar contacts, identifying targets, and evading enemy subs and I always was getting clobbered. So I figure maybe a WWII sub sim would be easier and fun. Ha!
Now I need to brush up on my basic trig to fire a torpedo at a target –no acoustical acquisitioning in Mk XIV torpedoes! And no nuclear fuel! I need to better plot my fuel burn rate to make sure I make it home –an pray the weather isn’t against me! I was surprised how much time whiz’s buy when I play this sim. 2 hours felt like 15 minutes after being so busy with various calculations. Am I having fun? Oh, yes ![]() |

Advise time
Should you be unable to charge batterys fully, turn off battery charging. When charging you use one shaft power to charge. Two screws give better MPG.

It will shut off automatically.
And if you absolutely need to, it's possible to cheat. Go into your Documents and Settings folder, find the SH4 folder there under My Games, then find your most recent save folder. There's both a GamePlaySettings.cfg file in there directly, and again within a subfolder. Editing that you can change the line LimitedFuel=true to LimitedFuel=false then save, close, and reload the save game. This will turn off the limited fuel, and let you get on to Midway or wherever your home port is. I had to do this a couple of days ago, when some trivial damage to the front of the boat (no hull damage, minor scratches to the bulkheads in the control room and forward torpedo room that took less than 30 seconds to fix all of them) caused my fuel consumption to go up to at least 4x what it was on the outbound trip. I made it from Midway to Okinawa for an agent insertion, then from Okinawa to the Korea Straight for a patrol with 67% diesel remaining, then ran out of fuel on the return leg about 1200 miles east of Tokyo going back while pulling every trick I could come up with to conserve fuel. I cheated my way back home.

Even at a couple hundred miles from port ... It's still a long walk.

Maybe you could dive and run on batteries and make it within range of the port. Or rig a sail with your bed sheets and coats to sail your way back.

My crewmen have long become proficient at paddling with biscuit tins.
The skipper sits on the bridge and beats time on an empty cooking oil drum. Done that at least three times already. We are getting a reputation with those boys at Midway
