Default Jackpot - GWX

I started my first career in an IX boat out of Lorient in 1940. On my first patrol I was heading to my patrol zone and just east of the rockwell? banks I received a report of a convoy. I promptly moved into position to intercept and started to scan the convoy.

Smack dab in the middle was a Nelson BB and there appeared to be only three escorts (a flower in the front and two others on the flank). I tool a little risk and went ahead standard while submerged after the lead flower had passed. I figured their sensros probably weren't very good at this time in the war. I got to within 1000m and sent 2 elecs and 2 steam torps into the BB and put her dead in the water.

I dived deep and was never detected. I surfaced an hour later and finished her off with a final fish.

How is that for a morale boost for a crew to sink a BB in their first encounter in their first patrol.

Now to do an end around and harass the convoy somemore.....I saw some tankers in their as well

Good job in sinking the Nelson Can't understand why she only had 3 escorts?
The last Taskforce I spotteed was HMS Ark Royal with 8 escort vessels! (I decided not to attack it.)

Actually, the weird part was that it was not even a task force. It was all merchants except the Nelson and the three convoy escorts. It was like she was on anti-raider duty all by herself.

Anyways, a couple more end arounds ought to chalk me up some merchants to add to the total!

Even in RL I'm sure the Nelson would have been more than a match for any raider

Well the crew is feeling pretty confident now. Three more intercepts of the same convoy and 2 whale ships, 2 tankers and a large cargo rest on the bottom.

THe crew is a bit tired now, and we only have two stern fish left. It is time to start heading home and try to pick off a loan merchnat or two.

We are at 93K in tonnage so far amd I am hoping to hit the 100K mark for the crew on their first patrol. So far the deck gun has rermained silent.

Talking of jackpots I'm in a similar situation. In Patrol 1 I came across the convoy you are talking about and sunk HMS Rodney in addition to merchants sunk in convoy and elsewhere, for a total of 106,000 GRT. Now I'm on Patrol 4 and have come across a convoy with HMS Rodney (those British have good salvage ships!!) smack in the middle but no other escorts. Stuck five torps in her to send her to the bottom for a second time. So far in addition to HMS Rodney, I have sunk in the convoy a large merchant. I now have a free hand to sink as many merchants in the convoy that I can. Hopefully I'll get another 100k plus tonnage on this patrol.
