Default damaged & going down

I'm trying to do the single, attack the Guadanacal carrier. U start out at periscope depth & "0" kts. I go to 1/3 & as soon as the DD's get far away I go to Standard.
The carrier is going at an angle away from me faster then I can go underwater to cut him off. The closest I could get was 3000m , but none of my four shots even got that far. they just quit at around 2500 meters or so.

then they got me & i'm going down. the front of lthe boat is full of guys & I tried to get them aft, but couldnt transfer any of them to a compartment without singley dragging each one..by then it's to late anyway.
Is there a-way to move the whole compartment to another compartment in one motion?

I couldn't find the "blow ballast" key while this was happening..lol.. I guess it's the "emergency surface" E key.. found that later..

Dont think there is, it is a pain as your u-boat is going down like a brick and you have to move crew from a flooded compatment one at a time.

Keep pressing the blow ballast key - it can save you form sinking quicky and give your repair crew time to stop the flooding.

Hmmm, tried the Guadalcanal mission again & after firing 4 torps @ 2800m I followed them from a Super cub view...
Two of the torps turned a 180 about half way & the other two turned a sharp 90 degree right turn just before hitting the carrier..

what is causing this? bummer, they were right on too.

A couple of points here.. and a question I've been meaning to ask myself.

What torps were you using, if they are electric then the range is only 3000m. For the older steam it's depending on the speed setting, then the max (on slow) is then 12.5km if memory serves. Steams are ok at night as the warships shouldn't see them, if it's just merchants they ususally don't see them even in the day.

To move troops quickly, left click on the compartment name so it is highlighted. Then right click on the compartment you want to move them to. It will move them all if there's room. I think it's left and right click, my fingers know but typing this in my brain is not sure, but fiddle with it as it works.

I'm not sure moving people to the front or back helps with diving speed. Can anyone clarify if moving people speed up dives? Always wonder that myself. But in emergencies for depth, go full speed if you were not already. That speed really helps you adjust depth.

Another question actually. I know the ships almost always guess your depth correctly (small AI cheat?), but do the depth charges auto adjust their depth if you change yours. Or another way, if you go flank and dive deeper when you hear them drop, can you get below them or with they just automatically drop farther to match?

T.

Eh, sounds like you are using the pattern torps, they are set to turn and run a pattern after a certain distance. So if you miss your original target they have a random chance of hitting something else in a convoy. Either that or acoustics and they picked something else up?

To move crew:

Left click on compartment you want crew to go. The, left click on compartment where crew are.

(actually click on compartment names)

Am guessing the torps are FAT torpedos and are turning for the search pattern

The first two torps are TIII (g7e) and 3-4 are FAT...now I have to try & find out how far they go before they are supose to turnaway from the target. The other two though should run for more then 2800m in a straight line.
I tried to change the two fat to the other type, but it wouldn't take...

I think its actually right click but yes tis easy to move lots of people in one or two clicks. You you double right click on a working compartment and there are free bunks they'll all go to bed as well.

Can someone explain me how to use FAT? To be honest for all that time I've never used them but now in 44 it could be useful as escorts are smart... What do those 4 dials mean or rather how to set them. Is the dist after which the pattern begins, set by standard target distance dial?

The FAT is the zigzag-torpedo right ? Not the acoustic one. I thought that the acoustic homing torps where the ones you use preferably against escorts. The programmable ones are most useful against convoys and such. Didn't use them either yet, though.

BTW: Did you get sunk and play a new career or is this still the '43 Bergen one with a new boat ?

PS I was also sunk in the med by a single DD... turned off eternal cam this time and turned ON wep officer help
