Default Sea Currents

I was reading Werner's Iron Coffins (great book!! well worth a read!!) and I remembering him mentioning about a 12knt current flowing through the Straits of Gibralter (that could be handy........). Are these currents replicated in GWX or any other mods? Or are any other sea currents replicated :hmm:.

I don't think sea currents are factored into SH3

!2 knots in Gibraltar? Highly unlikely maybe 2-3 kts. You would need pretty large tidal differences to create such a current. The tidal differences in the Med are very small.

I'm pretty sure the current was modelled in Aces of Deep, as I remember drifting through the Strait a la Das Boot style. I'm not sure if it is modelled in SH3, but I may be getting my sims mixed up here....

Yes. it´s true.

i remember too drifting in the strait, but also it makes nearly impossible return to the atlantic submerged, as it was in the reality

There is some "drift" in SH3... but nothing that can be called "current."

Certainly no currents running at 12kt.

No, it's not modeled in SH3 but I wish it were....

At high TC I notice the rudder flickers back and forth.

Isn't this correcting for the current? Or is it correcting for the wind?

Ahem, my dear Mr. Brag, I have to correct you a little bit.

It isn't the tidal differences that create the water exchange in the Med.
It's the difference in water density.
The Med water is more dense due to evaporation, it sinks to the bottom and flows out of the Med.
Atlantic 'light' water flows into the Med to compensate the water loss due to evaporation.

The Atlantic water current flows with about 5 to 10 km/h into the Med.

And it isn't simulated in SH3.

Monseur Thnipper,

You're absolutrely correct!
My remark was concerning 12 kts of current, which is not frequent and can be caused onlt by tidal differences.

To add to your comments, there is also a deep underwater current of about 1-3 knots flowing out of the med into the Atlantic. It was discovered by U Boats.

Here is everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask about currents in the straits of gibraltar

Hello all,
if you order all stop and then up the TC really high, you'll see your boat moving back and forth a little. Not really a current, though...
