I wonder if there are armour values in GWX because if there are and you were to do a surface dg attack, you wouldnt really dent it much.

kvbrock82 .. well done to you, on your second mission and over 80% Realism too
wish you had done some Screenshots of the Hood exploding; maybe next time ?!
BTW, your writing style, like Brags is immersive .. why you Guys aren't making any money out of your talents is beyond me.

thanks

i havent been playing for long and i wasnt thinking of anything besides seeing that cruiser hit the seabed, let alone learning how to take screenshots :rotfl:

However, yesterday i deleted my 2nd patrol save by mistake so i decided to head back to Plymouth on my new second patrol to find my prize again and there she was! I went to sleep just as i sunk her because it was late and i had work this morning so she should be there as soon as i load up the game. So.... how do i take a screenie?

Press Ctrl and F11.
You will find the image [as a bitmap image] in your SHIII folder.
Pressing F1 while in-game will give you more options.
Look forward to seeing a Screenshot .
Any problems, send me a PM.

Then I noticed a Nelson Class battleship (strange looking battleship, like the stern has been cut off), which was approaching my rear. Damn it, if I'd only noticed it earlier I would have saved at least one of my bow torps. As it is I only have my stern tube for attack. Fired my stern torp at a range of 750 metres and dived deep. The battleship took the hit and is listing noticeably to starboard but managing to keep up with the convoy. I am determined to have another go, so will plot a course for a second intercept later. The only problem is, the further I follow this convoy towards Ireland the shallower the sea becomes.

Nemo
After plotting a second intercept course I headed off at flank speed. Unfortunately it is late morning and there is only light cloud cover so I am completely exposed to aircraft attack. After about an hour my watch crew spot two Avro Ansons coming straight at us. Crash dive to 40 metres and hear several depth charge explosions close by. I give it 30 minutes and pop up to preriscope depth and use the observation scope to see if there are any aircraft around. Spot an Anson in the distance so remain submerged for another 30 minutes. Take another look through the scope and all clear to surface and go to flank speed. Whilst approching the predicted course of the convoy my watch crew spot a destroyer at 4,500 metres. That's odd the convoy must have changed course! Dive down to 40 metres and my soundman picks up the convoy and I am able to alter course for a better approach. Unfortunately I have been detected by the lead destroyer which is using asdic. Go to silent speed but remain at 40 metres. After a couple of close depth charge runs the destroyer appears to have lost me so I slowly rise to periscope depth. I observe the Nelson Class Battleship (HMS Rodney) approaching at a range of 3,500 metres still listing to starboard. Down scope. Make slight alteration of course to get in a better firing position. After a while I raise scope again, constantly keeping my soundman alert to the nearest destroyer. The Battleship is now at a range of 2,300 metres but not at an ideal angle for attack. What the hell, if I don't fire now I'll completely miss the opportunity. Fire a spread of three torpedoes. After the alotted time my first torpedo hits the Battleship. The second and third miss.

Dive deeper to 60 metres (am in shallow water so can't go much deeper) and await the escorts to unleash their fury at the audacity of a u-boat attacking one of the Royal Navy's pride and joy.

After a while I have three destroyers overhead dropping depth charges on me some quite close other some distance away. Then I get the "She's going down" message and I immediatley check my log to see 36,000 tons added to my patrol total. I managed to sneak away and whilst remaining submerged my soundman picks up a merchant at long range closing, a stragler from the convoy maybe. It looks like my patrol ain't over yet, still got two torpedoes remaining and a merchant coming in my direction!

Thanks, kvbrock82. Lucky it was in '39, if it had been later in the war it would have been much more of a challenge if not deadly.
