Lovely Surprise on my 2nd Patrol
GWX, 80-something realism. Sept/Oct 1939. South of England.
I decided to head into Plymouth for a quick look around on my way back to base with 4 eels left yesterday after a patrol that seemed doomed to mediocrity. While i snuck in i noticed the outline of a battleship docked in port at a very tight angle. I ran silent and maneouvered my sub inside the dock for a better look and possibly, a clear line of sight. I managed to sneak in and after some extremely uncomfortable tight turning i got within 400 metres to 30 degrees port of her. Upon lifting my scope i compared my view to my notepad. It was far too dark to get a clear ID but after some detailed observation i concluded that my target was a Revenge class battleship. I set my TDC; speed 0, angle 30 degrees, bearing 0 for some compartment targeting, magnetic fuse just below draft since i couldnt get in a better angle and an ignition fuse would certainly bounce off the ship from where i was.... i targeted 4 different spots on the ship, paying special attention to the ammunition compartments. Just as i was finishing my calculations, the revenge cruiser's flood lights came to life. At this point i almost wet my pants. Without further hesitation i manually targeted the scope at the ship and fired all 4 front eels. 1st eel dud  , 2nd eel also failed to explode :damn: , 3rd eel approached the rear ammunition compartment and made beautiful contact :arrgh!: , 4th eel also made its mark at the far rear. 3 seconds later i was witness to the most beautiful and awe inspiring firework feast of my life. A MASSIVE explosion ripped through the engine bay area and the whole ship blew up as 4 seperate explosions ripped through the ship, tearing her in two. I lowered my scope and made haste, the destroyers will be upon me soon. Silent running, just below the surface i made my escape. I maneouvered around the 4 V&Ws, 2 corvettes, and 2 torpedo boats. This took a lot of twisting and turning but after a couple of hours i was back out in open water. I plotted for home and finally made it.. this was to be an outstanding mission after a long list of low-medium tonnage targets. Upon arriving to check my tonnage i was hit by a surprise. The battleship was infact not a Revenge class but the almighty HMS HOOD! :|\\ a nice 40000+ tonnage to my belt. Quite a feat for an amateur captain on his 2nd Patrol i thought! :rotfl: Im sorry for rambling on but i was so excited that i had to tell somebody... especially since my girlfriend didnt seem very amused at how excited i was and how seriously i took this fantastic victory for zi germans! :arrgh!: this game kicks some serious ass. |
:hmm: not bad. not bad at all.
i have never seen the Hood in action :nope: only in scapa flow that is. *takes of my cap and bows* you deserved a promotion and the knights cross  Mohr |
ye they gave me a knights cross in fact!! :D :D :D :D
seriously you've never seen the hood in action?? wow this is a bigger deal than i thought!!! :hmm: i have good reason to be so happy then. :rotfl: i was really surprised when i saw it was the hood, it resembles the revenge a lot, especially from that angle and in pitch black. man i cant wait to get back home heh :arrgh!: |
next challenge: whipe out a convoy SURFACED :arrgh!:
soon there are more Mohrs than other members :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Mohr |

who dare's to follow me with this. il try to take on a BIIIIIG BB (like a revenge) later this day :arrgh!: Mohr |
Congratulations on your achievement. I was surprised myself this morning, Sept '39 got a report of a convoy approaching the gap between Ireland and Scotland. Managed to penetrate the destroyer screen and set up a decent approach within the convoy to torpedo a large merchant and two tankers with my bow torps. Then I noticed a Nelson Class battleship (strange looking battleship, like the stern has been cut off), which was approaching my rear. Damn it, if I'd only noticed it earlier I would have saved at least one of my bow torps. As it is I only have my stern tube for attack. Fired my stern torp at a range of 750 metres and dived deep. The battleship took the hit and is listing noticeably to starboard but managing to keep up with the convoy. I am determined to have another go, so will plot a course for a second intercept later. The only problem is, the further I follow this convoy towards Ireland the shallower the sea becomes.

GO FOR IT ! :arrgh!:
show these damn brits your not afraid of them :arrgh!: Mohr |
perhaps the Nelson's speed will drop making the line up for the next attack a little easier

Nice story and well done on a great success.
I really enjoy reading mission reports from SHIII players, particularly now that I can't play SHIII due to my monitor packing it in wth all the colours screwed up. There is just no point until my new Samsung SM226BW 22" widescreen TFT turns up. Again congrats on your success. :yep: |
Bravo, very well done!!!

Excellent story kvb:up:fingers crossed Nemo that the Nelson slows up enough for you to turn IT into a diving attraction;)

Well done and well written--congratz!
And Nemo, good luck with that Nelson.:D Don't listen to that suicidal maniac (who shall remain unnamed) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: |
