Last night I was approaching the Shetland Islands but I was tired so I figured the boys would be okay. Therefore, for the heck of it, I went to bed and left the game running at 1x. The weather was perfect with light fog.
I get up this morning....heavy fog, raining, wind speed at 7 m/s. Most often I only see the immidiate weather change when coming out of TC, but this happened at 1x. Except I didn't get to see it. ![]() Any of you guys ever see an extreme weather change, or any weather change at all at 1x in the game? How does it develop? I'm irked I didn't get to see this....I'm thinking it might have been kinda cool to watch.:hmm:

Once I observed a weather change while deck gunning a large merchant.
Before the change the weather was good, no fog or rain, wind speed at 7 m/s. Started hurling shells at the large freighter. ![]() Then I suddenly noticed a large fog bank appearing at some distance, coming towards me. Payed no attention to it though. That was a BIG mistake! ![]() ![]() The next thing I remember was that my gunners stopped shelling. When I ordered them once more to man the deck gun they told me that the weather was too bad. ![]() I checked the weather report which went something like this: "Light fog, no rain, wind speed 9 m/s, Sir!" Arrrrggghhh! ![]() So I finally had to waste an eel on that d$&n freighter! ![]() That's my little story concerning weather changes. So I hope you'll never get into the same situation that I was in. ![]() Happy hunting! ![]()

Never saw that either, now that i think about it... Another think I never saw is when a country, let's say England changes status from neutral to enemy (green to red) in the map.
mmmmh, interesting.... :hmm: CapZap

I saw several weather changes. Once while chatting with a visitor, from dead calm, the wind and waves slowly picked up and clouds moved in (Stock).
Another time, in North Sea (GWX). Light seas. A ship was approaching. Went to PD. As the scope went up, it showed a cloud bank. Within 10 minutes the sea was too choppy yo surface and use the deck gun. I've tried many times to watch weather change, no luck when I try ![]()

I once went to 32x while waiting for a ship to sink, and stayed on the bridge. After several (virtual) hours clouds started rolling in, and it started raining, then the sea rose. I finally got tired of waiting and put another torpedo into her. Still, it was interesting to watch.

Last night was the first time I'd encountered wether changes "in real time". Creeping forward at 1kt to attack a couple of Ore Carriers in a convoy at BE3951; I was in 0kts wind, clear skies, no fog. First ship had about 2000 yds to go before lining-up nicely when I popped-up the scope for a quick look. Whilst estimating times for the two Ore Carriers and deciding which to go for first, I noticed rain appearing - then the wind obviously increased as the swell swamped the scope. Then the visibility dropped to the point where I couldn't see a damn thing. Ended-up firing on estimates from the hydrophones. I was lucky. Two torps at each, four hits (magnetic) and they eventually both went down!

I was going through the English Channel early in the war (England was still neutral)
The Area in front of by boat had horrible visability while to starboard port and behind had perfect visability. Then I was surrounded, so you CAN sail into fog. |

Great stuff.
I try to play the tactical parts in 1x, so I have seen the weather change slowly a few times. There are some really great touches in this game.

Oft times for me the weather change is a gradual thing. Passing clouds and a light sprinkle, or darkening then a lull, or rain starting then increasing to a cloudburst. But on rare occasions it's scattered clouds, blink, and it's coming down in buckets.
What I would like to see in this simulation....is snow ! ![]() Reverie ![]() |

I've seen the weather change from dead calm and sunny to hurricane with rain fog and anything else you can think of and then back to just windy and cloudy over a period of about 4 days virtual time when running at 32x on the bridge. It looked a bit like those time lapse films of storms coming over and then clearing.
