I've just hit a stationary british destroyer. I've hit it in the port side bow and he is on fire! I heard explosions.. How much time do i have to wait until i can be certain it will sink? I mean, if a ship's on fire for 24h it should "die" doesnt it? Thanks in advance.

If his engines have stopped and his propellers aren't moving, he may be dead. If he is still undercontal and manouvering, then he's alive. If there are still people maning guns he's alive, if not he's going down!

Thanks! Its still a bit unrealist the fact it is indeed possible for a vessel to burn indefinitely.

Usually Destroyers go down quickly. They're small ships and they cannot cope with too much stractural damage.

The only surefire way to know is when you receive the message "She's going down"

Now this is odd. I hit a tanker with two torpedos. I had only 2 avaiable at the time and was waiting for a reload. Meanwhile i saved and went to my usual business. When i came back and wanted to play some more i loaded the game and still it was the tanker... i was 8m from a tube reload when... he went down! he sank probably from the previous 2 torpedos (or was it the rough weather? or both?!). The thing is i didnt get credit for it!

Now, in your case, SH3 might have considered that ship a kill while you were far away of it (more than 50 Km) and you arrived just when it was going down. The other option is that another u-boat or aircraft finished your job in your absence. Those are the only 2 possible explanations that I can think of. CapZap

No sir. I was in 300 meters of him the whole time. His propelers were working until the very end where i heard that music you ear when ships are going down. He went down. I went to captain's log, nothing.
