Default The Little Bell on My IID

I have what looks like a little brass bell on my IID, on the aft of the ship up on deck. First of all, I wish I could ring it. Secondly, what purpose did this little bell serve?

I really wish I could ring that little bell.

Heheh, good point. I wish I knew what it was for. Doesn't seem too bright to be all about stealth with a little brass bell hanging off your boat....

I imagine it is just a holdover from "the ship's bell." Every ship had one... and for wreck divers, it is one of the most valuable/sentimental things you can bring back.

They rang it constantly when in the middle of a fog bank so hopefully a friendly warship with radar would be able to come to their aid and lead them to clearer weather

That's what I like about sailors. They're willing to help each other, especially when they're in distress.

Hey, wait a minute....

You just know a Captain is comfortable with his boat when he can talk about his little brass bell in public.

you have to wonder though... as they travelled underwater would the bell not actually make some sound? surely there was a procedure for neutralizing the bell when diving. I mean putting a bell on a sub seems about like tieing little bells to the shoes of special forces agents.

I know. Having a bell on a war machine meant to be all about stealth is kinda nuts.
