Default The faceless crew

One thing I would like to see improved in whatever WW2 subsim comes after SH4 is the crew handling. Not only does the boat seem a bit static at the moment with crew members just standing around staring at their watch station. They're too lifeless, but that's an issue I can live with. What I would like to see is an evolution of the skipper/XO relationship. I would just like to see the real life relationship between the CO and his second in command actually mean something in the game too since IRL, it could make or break a boat. As it is, I don't even know who he is and he certainly isn't of any real use from what I can tell. Anyone else with me on this?

It still needs some work , but is an improvement over SH3.

As gaming progresses I do agree that the " crew interaction " component needs to become more meaningful. For now...., I will just be happy if the next patch can fix the remaining bugs ( or most of them :p ).

I dident even know that the WO ever looked up from the map untill I saw it in a video somewhere.

I dont think I ever interacted through a crew member in SH3. Well maybe once or twice as a novelty.

Yes it would be very cool to have the crew move around and be more lifelike but for now I just want the damn radar to get fixed

Just to clarify, this isn't a patch request. It's a feature suggestion for any other WW2 subsim that might surface in the future. Now carry on men

Folks say that there is not much game left in the WW2 era, but with things like your first post and others there is a lot of potential for growth

That's just the thing. First, everyone wants more of the same since the first thing was so totally awesome. They get like 200 clones or nearly identical copies and grow tired of the concept. Look at all the WW2 FPS' there's out there. None of have even come close to telling an actual story or in any way tried to convey emotions beyond the adrenaline rushes you get from a really intense fire fight (nothing wrong with that though). Now everyone's saying that WW2 FPS' are a dime a dozen and that we don't need any more. If the developers could just change the concept, we could still have a good solid gameplay coupled with an intriguing story. Same goes for subsims I guess. There's more to subs than just technical details. I would love for any developer to apply some more layers to their work beyond the cool technical aspects. There are a lot of WW2 games out there, but very few WW2 experiences.

Good point, games like everything else that becomes popular, quick turn redundant

Options are always nice, these could be fleshed out more in the SH Series and beyond.

have to agree that I do feel alone out there.

even SH3 had a WO to help out.

I think a more interactive crew who perhaps suggested options to the captain wouldnt go amiss. Even, dare I say, crew objecting to the captains orders with a possibility of utilising a procedure (whatever its called) that allows the first officer to remove the captain from office if he was just plain dangerous:p
