Retarded Sonarman

Happens more then I care for; get a ship reporting or even a screen indicator (f5) and you move to intercept. You know it's there. You stop got to periscope depth, or 15-20m and answer all stop.

Qualified po / crewmen at the hydrophone station, fresh not fatigued, about 8 patrols behind him.
Order a Sweep - nothing.
Perform a sweep yourself and detect a merchant. ( I actually like to do this anyhow )
Order your sonarman to follow the contact; and you get "No sound contact".

Ahh, excuse me - lets turn up the volume and try again, "No sound contact".
Tell me again why I qualified this dweeb, if I need to do this all myself anyhow.
How about I qualify him to peal onions in the galley.

Kapt'ns who rely on these guys instead of listening themselves from time to time will miss a lot of things...

In the name of realism I like the crews to fire the deckgun, fire the flakguns, and do the passive sonar. Unfortunatly the sonar guy is such an idiot that I have to man it myself.

<Edit : Never, EVER say anything like that again here. JCC>

Maybe they'll read comments like that before they start the next big subsim, and decide it's not even worth it.

:hmm: does your appreciation know any bounds

Absolutely disgraceful and lacking in any form of acceptable courtesy

Sorry we disagree on this. I am just a firm believer that if you are going to do a task, more so if it is your job that you get paid for, then you do it the right way.

I know that the DEVs were "suddenly" told that they must get it out the door by the "higher ups" but that is the stuff that you, as a DEV, get ironed out before you start the task.

I am not saying that the whole thing sucks but they did release a product that, in many areas, simply didn't work. To me, no excuses. Only through Modders has this game become playable. Am I going to fall for it twice? No way. Not until the Modders get ahold of it for awhile.

Like I said, sorry we disagree. But it is a forum.

Well, I'll just chalk it off as a live with thing. Kind of like the "." camera bug.
Ok so if we must live with retarded sonarmen, Im thinking relay the nessesary qualifications to good seamen and spend extra neede watch quals to po's.

If you use free cam inside the u-boat, go to sonar station and try move cam inside the sonarmans head, you'll see that he's actually an 4$$h0le!
Sorry, couldn't help it...

At least, at the beginning of a new career, the crew is composed of idiots. I don't know if this realism was intended or not

Agree with you 100% Lanzfeld. If you are going to charge me some of my hard-earned cash for your product, you'd better be damn sure that it works properly. If you do happen to make a mistake, which is entirely possible and excusable, it is then up to you to fix it via a patch, rather than to let the modders iron out your bugs while you try and hustle out your next game...

The only thing is I guess it's not really the dev's fault, as much as it is Ubi who are to blame...
