The IXB, IXC & IXD2 are now released....
JSGME Ready IXB http://files.filefront.com/IXB_Weath.../fileinfo.html IXC http://files.filefront.com/IXC_Weath.../fileinfo.html IXD2 Light Decking http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3LGYICWA http://files.filefront.com/IXD2_Weat.../fileinfo.html IXD2 Dark Decking http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IGSHIGMC http://files.filefront.com/IXD2_Weat.../fileinfo.html Both IXD2 Versions now available on Terrapins site (Thank you ![]() http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ GWX Ready Versions IXB - http://files.filefront.com/GWX_IXB_W.../fileinfo.html IXC - http://files.filefront.com/GWX_IXC_W.../fileinfo.html Please Enjoy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am trying to skin the IX boats with a view to make them more realistic in terms of patrol length. This will include weathering and a suitable camo/colouring to depict a long time at sea. Please ignore the water colour as it seems that I have nerf'd my scene dat which currently gives me Med water across the globe ![]() As this is a WIP I have not started the conning towers yet. I need to know that I'm heading in the right direction. I am looking for feedback regarding the boats colour and weathering effects. ![]() ![]() Your opinion is required, please.

I think fubar better look out, he's got some good competition. Looks REALLY nice so far. I so wish i had the same artistic capablty. Unfortunatly as modding goes ive always been a logic sort of a guy, and not creative enough for work like this. Again looks awesome.

I thought that you might be first in Ducimus, I'm happy with it too. I shall continue with this IXB version first then show the completed boat before starting on the IXC & IXD2.
The only thing I'm not convinced about is the camo stripes, maybe I'll have a play with those.

I agree... looks very nice.
![]() If you can, please make them JSGME compatable. Much easier for us with the dreaded "intalling impaired" syndrome. Besides, it's much safer too for SHIII. ![]()

http://www.rocketcopy.biz/models/rok...at_colours.pdf Personally, i think Camo stripes in general, are to break up a ships outline, its silloutte. Its not like a boat can hide behind a bush and blend in with its surroundings. So the general purpose is to break up the ship's sillloute or otherwise make it hard to find a range or AOB on. The "dazzle" camoflauge from WW1 is an example of this. The stock 9c skin, i think is a spin on this theme. ![]() The purpose of the scheme, seems to be to present several false bow wave. I don't know if its historical or not. As a comparision, heres a grey paint job, althoguh i must note that i didnt posiition the camera in the exact same position as the first screenshot so the breakup of the boats outline in the first picture will be exaggerated a little. ![]() Now, having said all that. The reality is, whatever camo you put on a boat in SH3 isn't goign to fool anyone, so you could argubly take a little more artistic liberty with it. Last edited by Ducimus; 11-05-06 at 02:10 PM. |

Thanks for that PDF Ducimus, I'll read it while I continue work. Just had a quick scan and it looks to have a wealth of info regarding colours etc.
Thanks ![]()

Small update for you.
Here is a semi-finished IXB with Conning Tower 1. It's funny that the skins all look different depending on the sunlight conditions. This time we're in English waters. From the Bridge: Note - I'm going to revert the wood paneling back to default as it is too dark. I also need to find out where the texture is for the radio antenna is. Any ideas? ![]() Side of bridge: ![]() Full view: ![]() Now, does anyone know where the textures are for the guns on the deck. They are not governed by the textures in GUNS_SUB.DAT (UFlak_High.tga or Typ21_20mm_UFlak.tga)

Radio annteinna is in "Conning_stuff.tga". Its in the both the sensors.dat and whatever conning tower you happen to be using. ALthough, the game seems to only take into account of the one in sensors.dat.

ALthough it could be governed by conning_stuff.tga as its the only one your missing it seems. btw, its looking really damn good. I particuarlly like the coloring on the UZO instead of the usual white color. Last edited by Ducimus; 11-05-06 at 04:28 PM. |

Techinally, there is rust there. As I have used the DAT's from my GW1.1a install, my skins have fubar's excellent work as a base.(under all of that somewhere)
However, I could add more rust.:hmm:

Guns are sorted.
FYI - Gun textures must be included in a texture folder. They will not enable just by re-packing the dat. ![]() Now then, 2 more conning towers & 2 more Hulls to go, then all done. Phew. Note to self, must be finished with this by Wednesday. ![]() Edit - I wonder if GWX has changed anything that might affect these skins:hmm: I hope not.
