From Pipkins
![]() Hartley Hare invited me out for a drink once but I didn't go. Looking at him I reckoned I might catch something.

It wouldn't be fair to leave Pipkins without mention of George The Tortoise. No, not an underworld boss... just another example of television animation at its finest, when British craftsmanship still meant something:

![]() ![]() Clifford Rose's performance was simply amazing as Ludwig Kessler, the cold and completely unempathic Nazi administrator in BBC's "The Secret Army". When you see him in interview you think "This guy would instantly apologise if you barged into him on the street... he is so nice". I don't know why he didn't become more well-known as an actor.

Kessler wasn't completely ruthless nazi. He was openly disgusted about the brutal execution of Stauffenberg-conspirators.

Just found "fortitude" (IMDB Link) on Amazon Video. I thought it might be an Amazon production, but I don't think so, not sure who put it out, but it's definitely not American broadcast. It's British in origin. But I digress... (EDIT: Season 2 at least seems to be an Amazon original)
This show is great. I can't tell if it's a Crime Drama, Horror, or Sci-fi, but all of them in one. Right off the bat there is an element of Horror and sci-fi, but then that gets back burnered up until the end of the first season (Where I'm at now). The story telling is amazing, as they skip over key parts, leaving the mystery of what happened hanging in the air as they try to figure it out. And when it does get revealed, they do so for the most dramatic effect they can get. And as they figure out the various mysteries of the plot, you go "Oh good, that's sorted then. Oh wait, what about X!?". There's all these little things they add, then make you forget about, just to bring them back later. It's amazing story telling. Stanley Tucci, Micheal Gambon, and Dennis Quaid (season 2) all play important characters, yet they don't even get top billing. This is a great show. |
