Why Bubbles Why???

Sure, some of them start out as white hats but soon get indoctrinated into the good ol' boys club where if you ain't with them. YOU AIN'T

I loathe all and admire none because the majority of them start out as lawyers.

We all know that there is no such thing as an honest lawyer.

Q: What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of ( insert favorite river here )

A: A real good start.

Ultimately, I am glad we are one nation, but this end did not justify his means, it was wrong and he should be remembered for what is was.

Well everyone hates lawyers until they really need one.I agree, some make my chosen profession look bad, but like cops, are a necessary evil in many cases.Do the job properly, a lawyer is a pretty noble position.Perhaps I am idealistic about it, but that is how I feel.Cops are same way, fairly noble job, if conducted properly.

Politicians. They're not people.

Hardly an equal comparison.

A good cop/law enforcement has an altruistic mind set and places themselves in a situation where they have to deal with the lowest of society they help people who can not get help anywhere else, they have to see things that most people do not want to see and deal with all that is bad in society. All of this and they will never make much money even though they work twice as hard as and take many times more risk in performing their job than a lawyer does.

Cabinet Secretary Humphrey Appleby for the win.
Quote:
Sir Humphrey: Minister, Britain has had the same foreign policy objective for at least the last five hundred years: to create a disunited Europe. In that cause we have fought with the Dutch against the Spanish, with the Germans against the French, with the French and Italians against the Germans, and with the French against the Germans and Italians. Divide and rule, you see. Why should we change now, when it's worked so well?

Hacker: That's all ancient history, surely?

Sir Humphrey: Yes, and current policy. We 'had' to break the whole thing [the EEC] up, so we had to get inside. We tried to break it up from the outside, but that wouldn't work. Now that we're inside we can make a complete pig's breakfast of the whole thing: set the Germans against the French, the French against the Italians, the Italians against the Dutch. The Foreign Office is terribly pleased; it's just like old times.

Hacker: But surely we're all committed to the European ideal?

Sir Humphrey: [chuckles] Really, Minister.

Hacker: If not, why are we pushing for an increase in the membership?

Sir Humphrey: Well, for the same reason. It's just like the United Nations, in fact; the more members it has, the more arguments it can stir up, the more futile and impotent it becomes.

Hacker: What appalling cynicism.

Sir Humphrey: Yes... We call it diplomacy, Minister.

But of course Sir Humphrey Appleby was the ultimate anti politician civil servant and definitely not a politician.

I know, I know...but the opportunity was too good to pass up, and if I had to think too hard at this time of the day then I might actually end up giving a serious answer, and that wouldn't be a good thing at all.
