Ok, so clean install with oh11. No joy. I did download it again. I really not sure this is a mod issue. If it was a mod issue would the game just CTD or hang? My problem is screen goes black, computer hangs and then a forced restart is required.
Are there any debug reports for sh5, if so where are they? I have looked at the event viewer and all I can see is critical that relates to unexpected shutdown. I think there might be a bsod happening, is there a problem that will record it? |

Its not a dodgy graphics card ? Try downclocking it with the graphics card software and see if it still happens .

Is this the download version of SH5 or the DVD version?
If it's the download, then that's the reason for CTDs. I can't remember which ones, but some of TDW's UI mods will cause the crash with running the download version. Someone needs to start a thread on this problem with reasons and have it made a Stickie. Maybe in both SH5 forums would be a good idea too. It could save a lot of headaches for those just getting into SH5, and save us time on finding out which version they're running.

Ok fixed it!!!!
If anyone has a 6950 then you will need to set the GPU fan to 50%. It seems that the card is overheating causing Black screen and system crash. It is a built in function with GPU so not to destroy the card. It might be a faulty card so i am RMA it to be on the safe side. However, for now all is well. |

Were those temps you posted in C or F? If there in F then that is REALLY cool, but if they are in C, then that is a bit warm. You mention water cooling but then you talk about the GPU fan, so Im assuming you only have the water cooling on the CPU? If your CPU is water cooled then 67C seems extremely hot, you should get better temps than that.
You should be able to set your GPU fan to automatically adjust fan speed with heat increase, they normally do this from the factory. And if you get a program like MSI Afterburner you can create your own "fan speed vs. temp" graph and adjust it to your liking. The problem may not be the GPU at all but could also be a problem with the ventilation of your case. My old comp just had a single large exhaust fan in the rear and a small intake fan on the side. The rear fan began failing and would only spin very slow or not at all, but I didnt realize because it was a pretty quiet fan. I would be able to game for a while but eventually without good ventilation the case would build up enough heat inside the GPU would overheat and system would hang, black screen, and forced reset, exactly like what you said yours did. The game I was playing most at that time was very temperamental to begin with (much like all SH5 games seem to be) so I just assumed it was a software problem with the game/mods/addons. I chased the problem forever thinking it was a software issue, finally to figure out in the end it was just my $10 fan had **** the bed. Put new fan in and game was running fine again. I have water cooling on a AMD Phenom II 975 quad core and a Radeon HD 5770, there both in the same loop, with a 360x120mm radiator. There both overclocked with more voltage(heat). They both idle around 30-32c depending on room temp. The highest I have ever seen the CPU go while stress testing is about 45c, but it never gets that high during gaming. With Kombuster stressing the GPU 100% it will only get up in the low 40's. Before I had the GPU water cooled It would get up maybe in the 60's. It was a ****ty reference cooler and when the fan ramped up it sounded like a hair dryer. So to me the best part about water cooling is the just the quietness of it. A few quiet fans in the case and a few quiet fans on the radiator. No matter how hard you stress the computer the sound is always the same, no GPU fan ramping up sounding like a jet engine preparing for take off! |
