Well, to build something new, the old one must be broken.

It's like a whole new world!

It's like the old one but with less money.

And why is there faeces on my wall?

Hmm.. think you spelt Dowly wrong, my account's still empty..

Ah well..

You remember nothing of the last few hours. The stains on your walls
are just the result of a weather balloon crashing unfortunately
right on top of you. You clean it up and return to your daily activities.

You also have the sudden urge to cut your lawn.

I did, believe it or not. I could have a BBQ now without packing a machette. For self-defence, you see.

If it wasn't raining all the time and simply rather chilly that is... Another summer perhaps.

Wait, how did I get here?

I never played the original X-com, after playing the XCOM demo I ended up getting Xenonauts.

My impressions of both:

XCOM has an awesome atmosphere and graphics. However, the cover system and the accuracy are a little wonky. I'm also a little put off by the focus on energy weapons and high-tech armors. I feel like they should be a late game items. I played the demo on classic which usually ended up with me losing someone(or everyone). I hope that every time you start a new campaign you don't have to go through that training mission. I'll definitely be picking up the game at some point.

Xenonauts: Has awesome gameplay, however the alpha is quite glitchy(which is to be expected) and unfinished. I can't move my APC out of the Chinook(just refuses to go), a soldier glitched in spot(couldn't move him), and the walking sound got stuck once. They weren't really game breaking(save for the APC not moving). Dowly has stated there are hotfixes for some of the glitches on the forums, but I have yet to find them. Another thing, the map tileset needs to be updated. I shot down a UFO over Canada, and then another over Mexico, the map was exactly the same. However, this again will probably be fixed.

The issue with unloading stuff from the back of the Chinook was fixed in v15.1,
so find and download that one.

There's also an issue with time being stuck when you load a saved game,
Giovanni posted workaround for that:

A bit unpractical, but it allows you to play until we fix it! (seems like the
issue is just when you load a game from the main menu)
And you want to get this hot fix as well. Otherwise the game will crash
when you go to a crash site that's using the farm tileset.

But yea, it's still alpha and you can't get very far in it and plenty of stuff is
either not implemented or broken. Should start to get rapid updates when
Chris (lead dev) gets back from his holiday early October.

Thanks for the two links, according to my zip, I have 15.1, but when I open the folder it's still 15 and I have the chinook glitch.

Try updating it like this then:
http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/f...g-v15-to-v15-1

You might have to re-apply the farm tileset CTD hot fix after updating.

There's other tilesets already? I only ever get the same ol' town with slight variation.

I like it, but in this alpha stage it's so terribly repetitive that I can't spend much time with it.

They are. It may look fancy but that's just artwork. It's really basic stuff at the start (as in; ballistic weapons).

That demo is just terrible in terms of representing the game.

All of the footage they show off is with armors and lasers, so I had figured you could get them fairly easy in the game. I know the demo had ballistic ammo.

Also there is a 201 Map pack that adds.. well 201 new maps. But it was last updated for 14 in September.

The gameplay they've been demoing is with pretty fancy stuff. There's some alien races that haven't been shown yet, so I guess that's about mid-game tech.
