Out of fuel and batteries

Running vanilla because my game doesn't like running GWX.
Im about 400 km out of wilhshaven and completely unable to move. Is it the end for me?
Also this happened because of the game, should I run with fuel turned off?

You don't have to do that.
Use ahead one third to transit to your patrol area and back.
Use ahead fast or flank to run into attack position or to intercept a convoy.

That should do it.
Also keep in mind the type of Uboot you have.
There is no chance to make it to Freetown and back in type II!

You can also use this mod :

Question is, how?

You can go to the US east coast, have a successful patrol and return in a type VII.

How does one run out of fuel?

A type II has quite a low amount of fuel. Vonharris's advice is good for keeping fuel consumption at a minimum. Each boat has a speed (or rather engine power, speed depends on the weather)that spends the minimum amount of fuel. You can get the Navigator to assess the maximum range at current speed by clicking one of his order icons.

Before I would quit the career though, I would try to add H.sie's and Stiebler's mods to your SH3. Stiebler adds the option to surrender the boat. If you get lucky you will be saved and can continue your career.

These mods change your SH3.exe so it might be your savegame won't work though.

With only 400km I guesstimate you are only half way into the north sea. If you really have no fuel left at all, you could cheat a little by ending your patrol from there. This gives you a Frequent Flyer Miles Bonus, and allows you to transport back to base in a blink of an eye. Then convince the staff at BdU to write it up as a towing incident. It's near enough to home waters.

But yeah, if you still have some fuel left, it might be best to just set speed to 8 knots, and go home on your last drops. 8 knots (in good weather) is better than just setting ahead one third. But the latter option is the easiest in normal conditions. This time however, you need every drop you have.

How did you loose that much fuel in the first place? Battle damage to your tanks? Did you set speed to flank all the time? Do you have SH3 Commander? Then the cause might be sabotage or a malfunction.

There is a solution to your problem mate...order your crew and officers to take off all your closes and make a big sail...lol with favourable winds you will reach your home base, late but you will arrive...and all so a promise you the biggest welcome of your life...(even if you dont sink any enemy ship lol) not from the bdu and staff, but specially from ALL FEMALE PERSONNEL...

If you surface your batteries will refresh themselves, submerge then repeat...it is a long process but it is one of the anomolies of the game.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one.

While you're at it. Plug some copper and galvanised wires into the left over lemons and get the extra juice!
