Is there a refueling spot near or on the way to the Americas'?

Yes, they pop up on the chart when they are available. It works just like the supply shipd

Unfortunately no. You get a new patrol with NULL orders.

Hsie's realism mod promises to fix this:

"12. U-Tanker Mod - by Stiebler and h.sie

I don't know if this works. I have the mod, but I haven't yet visited a U-tanker - and won't for a while, since I am now playing a campaign in the Mediterranean.
