Helo is actually my #2 most of the time.

To be totally honest, I just don't "get" the P-3C. I just find it far too difficult to employ it effectively as an ASW asset. The MH-60 is easy, I can stop, gain my bearings and take as many dips as I want before finally prosecuting a contact.

I like the 688 by far. And im supprised it is a contender with the FFG for first place. I thought the Akula 2 and Seawolf would be hard fought for first place. I think the Seawolf is to advanced for multiplayer gaming in all respects. I think the Akula is just as quit as a 688 with equle sonar abilitys and a far more powerfull weapons package. The Kilo even without a tail and with less tubes and even less tubes for smart weapons is still so quit it is still a signifecant threat to a 688. IMO the 688 is the underdog of the game. The only sub it seems to have any kind of advantage over is the Kilo. But in all the missions i have seen that pit a Kilo againts a 688 is conducted in shallow water were that advantage is stripped away.

I'm a sucker for the Russian stuff, particularly the Akula (mmm... there's a surprise considering my modeling thread I hear everyone say). It might not be the best sub in the sim, and the model is not very much like a real one as far as looks go, but it is close enough and the thing is quite capable when you learn its nuances. Being able to fire the squall torpedo is great when the gloves come off and stealth goes out of the window, too.

First, Akula=Kilo: their ASW Rockets-Torpedos and the Kilo's Low Signal (But I dont like too much Kilo's sonar suite.
Second, P-3: Absolubly great
Third, FFG

And the US subs: Not too much. They are good but I prefer the others.

Seawolf and 688i for the way

The Kilo as a Diesel Submarine is also interesting but i dont like the Russian kind of sonar interface.

Who cares about the sonar interface? The sonar's so bad that you do most of your detections using periscope, ESM and radar.

thats also true but thats a thing i will manage if i want a harder challenge.
My main problem with the Russian Sonar is that u have to look and watch all the time
at this interface and u have no chance to get a "contact history" like in the waterfall displays. Its also harder to see a contact the sonar has detected if you dont have a strong contact.
Handling of Waterfall display is so much easier if the american sonar where as bad as the russion and the russian as good as the american one i would also use american subs because of the waterfall.

As much as I love the 688i (Jefferson City), even over the SW.. when it comes to subs I'll have to go with the akula 2 class submarine - Rys'-M Hull. She offers a great deal more than any of the other subs in DW. And where she lacks in sonar tech compared to the west, she makes up for that many times over in a number of areas.

She is also known as 'The sniper of the Seven Seas' and for that reason she really makes you appreciate manual TMA. In terms of stealth.. well.. stealth is only as good as the commander and not the platform.

I love you darlin' (smoooch)

for GP:

2.. kilo
3.. 688
4.. SW
5.. p3
6.. helo
7.. FFG

I like the 688i because it's smaller and more maneuverable than the Seawolf. Plus, like BigBadVuk, I also like green.

Helo, P-3, Kilo

Agree with the post about the helo being more skilful.

As for not being able to use the P-3 effectively, I personally get up to about 35 grand sit with my ESM on and just wait for anything to pop up. If it does, get the camera on the contact to ID it (Infrared is the best for this, everything will be black and the contacts stick out like a dogs bits) then pop off some mavericks. Once the surface is clear, get the mad boom on and go sweeping! Very good platform in multiplayer, especially if someone else is an FFG with you.

Strange as it may sound, I like playing the FFG. I find the helo, the towed array, and the weapons system just more 'fun'. You can make MANY a bubbleheads lfe miserable with them if used skillfully. It is that skill level that makes it so much fun for me.

When I am doing the bubblehead thing, I use nothing other than my old reliable 688. The Seawolf is just too gizmo-ish for me. I know it is a great platform, but I just do not like how it drives.

If I have to use an air asset, I can do the MH-60 or the P-3c equally well. Having a step father who was a flight engineer on a P-3 helps. He brought out the books and showed me how to really use the platform. A lot of that training works on the helo, it is just a little slower.

For some reason, I just can not get into the russian boats.
