Where do you aim?
![]() As the thread title says, where do you aim your torpedoes on a target ship? Me personally, I always put one magnetic under point B and let the ship's speed do the rest. edit - you can make more than one choice ![]() Last edited by Obersteuermann; 04-04-11 at 10:32 AM. |

It varies... depends mostly on the type of ship and the weather/sea state.
In calm seas I am more likely to aim for what I hope is the engine room with the first eel, or for what I hope will be ammo storage on warships. If the weather is rougher I like point 'B' especially with a magnetic. I've seen a lot of ships go down from one hit like that. Even with an impact into the side if the sea is rough enough, although it can take a while for the sea to finish the job in that scenario. One magnetic going off properly right under the keel seems to be enough most of the time no matter what part of the ship I aim at. ![]() |

As Frau says-it is pretty weather and ship dependent. I picked D for that particular ship mainly because the eel would be off a bit and hit under the stack at E-right in the engine spaces.
I have also had good luck aiming around B and C and letting her motion help drive her under, especially in rougher seas. ![]()

It also depends on how accurate my speed / aob calculations seem to be. If it's an exact perfect shot, I like to go for C (magnetic) in a ship like this one. With rough estimates, I aim right in the middle hoping that it will still hit somewhere between A and I.

Depends greatly on the weather, if it's a heavy fog and rough seas I'll do my best to take out the engines first.
If it's favorable conditions anywhere between B and E. |

Generally, at about 1000m I launch 1-2 eels about 2-3 seconds apart.
I lead the target about 5 degrees off the bow and launch the first one right as the bow of the target passes through the cross-hairs. |

A - E - I.
3 torps set to impact at a depth of 3 meters. I've stopped using all our scientific methods as my tonnage was again getting very unhistoricly high. So, with only visual speed estimations, I need 3 torpedoes spread over the maximum surface of the target. If it's a rushed emergency snapshot, I'll use what I learned from the writings of an english sub commander.: "One just forward of the target, in case he's moving a knot or so faster. One dead center. And one just aft the target, in case he's moving a knot or so slower." I like this method. And, it almost always results in 2 hits. If I realy blow the estimation, I should still get 1 hit. I'm stingy with my fuel, but not my torpedoes. |

I aim at E, doesn't mean I hit there though

Seeing as how I aim manually I don't have the luxury of a specific aiming point but ideally I'd like to think I could hit B, E or I.

Usually I go for point B, but when I encounter carriers or battleships that are way faster than me, I try to hit one ship at point B and another target way at the stern to take out it's engines, so I can at least catch up to it later to finish her off.

I hit the bow if my target is fast, or if it's an aircraft carrier. Otherwise, I hit just aft of the masts or the stern.

First torp. under the fore-mast for a merchant, or under the 2nd fwd turret if it's a war ship. (B) The second is aimed under the stack (E). If a third is required (I'll use 3 on anything over 6000t) It goes between B & E , ships seem to sink faster if all the holes are at one end.
