Default Minor Damage - any effect?

This weekend I torpedoed a small merchant and to finish him up I decided to surface and shot its cargo with my AA (still in my ol'Type IIa and its June 1940!), which worked fine by the way. But I was up for a little suprise.

Before I surfaced the sonar man caught, in the same bearing as my small merchant, a warship. I just disregarded him with contempt (he loses any contact every 5 minutes and I have reaquire it for him and show him how it is done), and thought he was wrong.

So I surfaced.

Then I shot my small merchant. From time to time I heard (and saw) bullets above my head but thought that somehow muy victim had a kind of machine gun although I couldn't see it.

I finally sunk her and decided to go arround it, to continue my patrol. Then, just as I went around its stern, I saw it: a ASW trawler racing towards me, shooting angrily! He was at 1.500 yards or something so... you guessed it:

ALAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARM

It took me 2 hours real time to shake him off. At least he did 9 runs with depth charges (at least 40 explosions) that shook U-15 for the first time in my war. I took minor damage in every compartment: compressor, electric and diesel engines, dive planes, etc...

So, these are my questions:

1.- After its 9 runs, the ASW kept pinpointing me, but didn't fire any more charges... did it spend them all (so more or less 30-40?)?

2.- Has the minor damage any effect on the performance of the boat? I didn't notice any. Even with damage in my dive planes, I could change and keep depth np. The compressor was damaged but I had my full load of compressed air, batteries were shaked but didn't lose power, etc...

Thx!

You are lucky.

That trawler was staying on your tail after expending all his weapons because more escorts, maybe aircraft, are on the way. He is keeping your position for them.

Minor damage reduces your hull integrity. That means you can take less damage next time and cannot go to your full depth without being destroyed.

If you are not playing reality, you may be able to see your hull integrity on the damage screen. If not, you don't really know how minor the damage was and must be careful about depth.

Repairs will NOT restore hull integrity to full percentage.

Good Luck

I don't know how much hull integrity I have left, I have the option disabled. I got away fine: no aircraft appeared, no escorts.

If minor damage affects only hull integrity, the repairs are just for the show? I can leave my compressor steaming and I will have no more ill effects except the constant shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noise?

Maybe damage is cumulative and if not repaired, the next minor damage will add up and be more serious?

And the ASW trawler has only 40 cans?

Thx!

Are you playing stock/vanilla or a supermod?

IIRC 40 is a lot of cans for an ASW Trawler.

Thae trawler will stay on your case as long as he has a fix on you and the game will throw an imaginary dice that decides what assets if any will come to assist.....dependant on their location and availability.

GWX 3
Well, it was 9 runs with depth charges. Maybe it was more like 20-30? So it run out of cans... that's good to know.

When you reload the game, you will get a rough idea of how badly you are damaged. As the screen pops to life if there is sparking and flickering lights, there is damage. I estimate that for every second the sparking continues, it represents 10% damage to hull integrity.
