I'm unsure what it is that causes this exactly, it happens seemingly randomly. Sometimes when I start the game and resume my campaign the little mouseover "help" box (IE when mousing over the speed settings it tells you what surface/submerged speeds are, or when mousing over a contact it tells you compass heading, speed, etc) works, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it'll go from working to suddenly not displaying in the middle of a session.
I've yet to figure out what is causing it, or what (if any) fix there is for it. It gets downright frustrating as I'm still using some of them as a crutch while I learn and grow more adept at other aspects of the sim. Is saving/reloading until the problem goes away pretty much the only recourse? Or have I overlooked a post somewhere that details the problem and a potential solution? I was unsure what terms exactly to search for about this problem. |

are you using the stock UI or a mod UI?

Oops neglected to mention that little teeny minor insignificant detail (heh)... using your 3.9.1 (i think... one of the more recent ones at least) mod UI.

Ah hah.. that tiny little button that expanded that bar was extremely easy to miss. I had just taken it for artistic flair like a rivet... yea for some reason the item notes have been being enabled/disabled at random for me... but now that I know where to look... no problemo!
Edit: As far as specs and language go... I've got a mid-high end machine running the US English version. |

You say the item notes have been enabled/disabled at random for you....is the togglable icon for item notes mimicking this behavior? |

Can't comment about the previous times this has happened.. but in this case I know they were functioning last night when I saved, and just today when I reloaded that save they were not functioning and the icon showed them as being disabled.
Edit: Could there perhaps be an undocumented hotkey or something that might enable/disable this feature? I know I have a tendency to fat finger keys and hit some strange combinations by mistake. |

Well the odd thing is that, I was unaware of the existance of the toggle icons bar/button until now, so I know I've never pressed any of those six icons. Yet at the same time, the item notes have persisted in their on-again off-again behavior.
I'm unaware of what line in the options file is being changed, or even how (as I've not made any conscious changes to even your UIs config files) |

Well the depth/map tools certainly don't have a problem.
I'm unsure what the show lock/break lock button does, I'll fiddle with it and see if I notice anything. (It was disabled when I expanded the menu) We've determined that at least in my situation the item notes are attributing a cruel intelligence. Hide XO TDC I'm also unfamiliar with at this moment, however it was enabled. I'm assuming this is enabled by default because your TDC work (or perhaps one of the other mods I'm running) replace the default TDC. Show player guidance and objectives both were disabled as well, and I haven't seen them pop back up since installing one of the previous versions of your UI I believe, so those seem to be working as intended. |

Gotcha.. in that case those too seem to be consistent in their behavior.. that is to say they behave as they should that I've noticed.
