@ Hellish

Import into SH5 isnt sorted yet
On the way but not quite ready
What I do know is you will need to keep it in the MAX format for the mo

If you want to import it to SH3 would be a cool addition to have as well as in SH4
While we wait so to speak
lol

I have been able to make boats that play in sh4, and work to the fullest, without having changed the the interiors. so on battleships you still have the sub command room. one thing I'm still working on is that when I make a new boat, I can get the materials to render, so far only ships made bigger than the yamoto. Have friends helping me to get that straight. We even made a plane to use instead of a sub. It was a funny try. shooting torps and droping decoys. more to come.

Nice one
the compartment is done, and I can make it for use in sh4 for now if you like, but I have to set up cam files first.
The ship you sent to me is almost finished, and can be used in sh4.

What is needed are real IJN "Kaibokan" subchasers.

Other than that, japanese "standard type" merchants would also be a good start, along with "sea truck" types of coasters. The japanese built thousands of sea trucks. In addition to those "Sugar Dog" types, the "Fox Tare" types were cool in that they look nearly identical to larger ships, but are at or below 1000 tons. This resulted in many false claims for larger tonnage (could also throw off your range).

BTW, when anyone is making new merchants, please think about keeping all the masts, cranes, gun platforms and deckhouses AS INDIVIDUAL OBJECTS.

The eqp files allow you to vary ships via what we in SH4 called "BP cloning" (named after "bungo pete" who ducimus made using this technique). SH4+ allows you to make a new ship but point at an existing ship model. With a new eqp fil, you can completely alter the look if the ship with no "real" cloning required. Masts and deckhouses can be done this way, you can even have the same ship with different eqp dates in a given group, and have the masts change based on the config date. Y nodes are explicitly in the game to do this.

There is much goodness that can come of this—sister ships where one was modified to have a slightly different mast or funnel height, for example. Screw up people's solutions!

Thats one thing I really wish was in SH3
Ability to use one hull and create multiple different looking units thru the eqp
IIRC one of the US BBs was set to do that out the box with towers

Imagine tis the same in SH5 though not looked into that yet

Yeah, they did that with USN BB early/late superstructure cage masts.

It works, I've tested it, it's just very complicated because the stock SH4 merchant ships are not consistent. They'll have masts as an object to move, but the booms for the mast are part of the hull :/ I actually have a DAT I made with every single SH4 mast/etc in one dat, with altitudes all moved to zero So I can place them easier. Ditto for every superstructure, etc. Still it is tricky.

Seriously for any 3d modelers out there. Make ventilators, masts, kingposts, cranes, lifeboats, ventilators, gun platforms, DC rails, etc SEPARATE OBJECTS.

There are many RL examples of sister ships with subtle differences. Since SH4 and 5 (I'm sure 5 is the same) allow "BP clones" MANY new ships can be added with little increase in system overhead.

I used this to have some IJN ships change (add gun platforms, etc) over time.

Another note to ship builders:

like aircraft, ships can have LOADOUTS.

Add a loadout to the ship cfg, then add the loadouts to the eqp file. In the mission editor, you will then get to pick which version of the same ship to use. You could have 4 different deckhouse/mast arrangements for 1 ship, or mess with ventilators, etc. In the rec manual, it will still only show up under the DEFAULT version. So 1 rec manual entry, many variants to confuse people as to what they are seeing—and if done right, some have different mast heights, funnel heights, etc.
