Default A strange sense of 'community'

I was just browsing the 'offical' sh5 site and saw a link up there "community" so I clicked on it and it leads to a news item page?

http://silent-hunter.uk.ubi.com/sile...ter-5/news.php

A placeholder perhaps but I also noted something else up there

"Uplay"... its all about you

http://uplay.us.ubi.com/agegate

That reminded me alot of the old Mplay service which closed several years ago stranding alot of games/gamers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPlayer.com

Will history repeat itself?

ps; Not one mention of SH5 that I saw at Uplay.

99,99% yes. Once game companies have direct control over how and when you play their games, they have for all intents and purposes locked themselves on a revenue stream with 100% certainty. New game comes out ? What better why to entice you to buy it than close down the old servers ? Other publishers already do it. Ubisoft will be next in line.

Only if you're Pavlov's dog, and buy a game when they ring a bell.

That's for the DRM servers. I think this thread was about multiplayer servers. So, if they take the multiplayer servers down, there's no more multiplayer.

Since this system is going to be cracked days after it's set loose on the world, I don't see the problem if their servers go away and they never patch.

Stop panicking.

Just an example:
World of Warcraft has 12million players where continuous internet connection is required to play the game. Every Tuesday the servers go down for maintenance lasting usually 8-10 hrs some Tuesdays they have a reboot maintenance where the servers are down for no more than 15 min. Recently the Tichcondrius realm was down for two days straight. That's the longest ive experienced in a lock down. I went and did something else till they got the realm back up.

Ubisoft SH5 servers crash or go down for maintenance. So what?

I would rather Ubisoft have a maintenance day like WoW and shut down servers once a fortnight or month so they can make our online experience always up to par. I mean your not going to play the game 7 days a week 24hrs per day are yas? well some might attempt it Your save games will always be available when you log in (SH3 save game bug), your character profile will never be lost even if you delete it or your hdd spits the dummy and corrupts your game - no worries your files will (should) be available to grab of the server.

There are some good points of having online connection to play games.

What happens if your crew spot a ship or a plane during your sleep or while you're at work...

See if no DRM, dont have to worry about the bloody servers being down even once a week.I purchase the game, should be able to play it when I want without worrying about server going down.I am busy now and will be heading to Law School this year so will be even more busy between that and life.So when I get a chance to play, often at odd times I will be quite steamed if I can not because their ridiculous system is down.Keep it simple, make a game, put it on disk, sell it, player uses it at will with NO problems.

Highly likely I would say.
