I own all previous versions of SH as well as Destroyer command.

If I cannot play SH5 on my laptop away from an internet connection I will not buy it.

Why release it on disk at all?

You cannot use your bought and paid for product unless they say so?

Requiring an internet connection is little different than pay to play.

I encourage all not to support this type of DRM.

It says no need for cd/dvd to play .
Nothing new here.

I've always wondered if it is such hassle to have the original CD/DVD inserted when
starting up the game.

It's just a minor delay, no big deal to me.

Can somebody explain what difficulties one has experienced needing the CD/DVD for starting up?

Default Yes online play is a load of bull

Here in South Africa we must pay per MB used not like the rest of the world only paying for their connection We are capped on all connections and our affordable ADSL is only 384kbps and we must pay R70 per gig we use. Wireless is way to unreliable to play games on and also cost 5 times more. This is now the thank that I get for buying all previous Silent Hunter original games....It was hard enough to get the updates of all previous SH's for the games to work properly. Ubisoft is the same as Microsoft, they want top $ for software but ppl that buy's it must sit with errors and programming bugs. Then your pc must send them fault reports to fix it...why not pay ppl to test the software properly before they sell it like PS3 and other consoles.

Think after this I'll wait for a crack of SH5 to come out and buy the pirated game!! Hope this is a lesson for Ubisoft, cause not all ppl playing games have Inet connections.

Sorry to say this, but:
1) off topic.
2) talking about pirating/cracking games is against the forum rules.
3) drm discussion in wrong thread.

Man, this thread went south in a hurry!
Every thread goes south in a hurry with the anti-DRM trolls around. It reminds me of the old days when The Avon Lady was trolling the General Forums, seguing every single thread into a hate rant on Islam.

Inserting disk is easy, or I just keep it in. Click and game starts loading.
Having to log in, maybe requiring several tries is a pain up the bazoonks.
limiting the discussion to that, where is the benefit? Ubi is insulting our intelligence.

I had some pain with SH4 when I had it briefly installed - the SecuRom kept failing to recognise the disc in the drive (about 50% of the time). One of the reasons why it didn't stay installed for long.
