Hi all. If you have not seen it yet, just to note that the RoF developers have announced they are giving offline access to their popular flight simulation in the upcoming patch. Of interest and significance to this debate of SH5 and DRM, they acknowledge customers have refained from buying RoF because of the requirement to be logged on the internet, have displayed for the first time the thought processes that led them to this decision (in terms of the need to listen to concerns of customers and attract more to buy it VERSUS the need to make it harder for pirates to make illegal copies...interesting insight into the thinking on this subject from a contemprary and successful publisher...and significantly, they did NOT come down on the side of making it harder for pirates if it meant putting off more trade...) and that they hoped their decision,l carefully weighed, would be successful n attracting those who have refrained from buying their simulation. In their own words: "There is no excuse now!" for trying RoF. An interesting and germain development for SH5 developers and those who care about what Ubisoft are doing re SH5 and internet connections.
For your information. Nimmo55 ![]() |

Actually they dropped it because they couldn't afford keeping the servers running and stable. Of course, it was put in a different, more favorable light.
In other news, Blizzard announces that all its games will require permanent connection: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ba...tainment/61756

I use STEAM a lot for Valve FPS games and whilst it is very stable occasionally (maybe once every 2 weeks), I will get booted out of a game automatically because it cannot verify my ID in the STEAM cloud.
Now what really browns me off if the attitide of the developers and support structure who really dont care that I might have been playing a campaign for 1hr up to that point. Simply reconnecting or restarting my STEAM client might well allow me to play the game again but its not like I can carry on where I left off and its hardly my fault. My point is there is no sense of ownership or customer care with DRM when it goes wrong, so until they can get that basic service right why make people suffer ![]() |

Now, I have no problems with that one. Blizzard's games have become the ultimate online games (besides FPS like Doom, Quake, UT or the new AvP). WOW is the most representative in that aspect, but also games like Starcraft are massive in MP gaming volume, and so, it seems logical to incorporate the online aspect into SC2 and the other games. But, what fits perfectly into Blizzard's games, doesn't in Ubisoft's, specially in simulators. But it seems that the user's experience and wishes don't count. And they still expect to get massive cash flows? I hope they learn a good lesson from this HUGE mistake. Cheers ![]() |

I myself don't like the DRM in SH5, and will not buy it as long as it is there, but come on, this all is starting to be saturating.
This thread isn't even about SH5 itself, and it is certain now that SH5 will appear in March with the DRM as expected, so please stop beating the dead horse and let's talk about SH5 itself.

A long battle is tiring. In less than 3 weeks we'll be able to poke Ubi where it hurts as we snap our wallets shut. Then Ubi will listen and come out with a patch or a walkaround. If they won't do it, the "free lance techies" will. That will hurt Ubi worse than anything we can do. Moo!
